HC rebuff to admn over land acquisition

The UT administration has virtually received a rap on its knuckles in a case of acquisition of land. Quashing its notification issued for acquiring land in 2008, the Punjab & Haryana High Court has held the administration and other respondents simply indulged in an “empty formality” rather than applying their mind to the issue.

Row sparks traffic chaos on Ambala highway

Traffic came to a standstill today afternoon for over half an hour today near the diversion to Kalka in Zirakpur on the busy Chandigarh-Ambala highway after an altercation between a Haryana Roadways bus driver and two traffic cops. The incident took place at about 2 pm when a traffic policeman on duty objected to the driver parking the bus on one side of the road.

District Sessions Judge SK Goyal has directed Bajaj Auto Finance to pay a compensation of Rs 8,916 at an interest of 8 per cent per annum to Murli Ram whose vehicle was impounded on account of not paying the last installment.

Inter-state gang of car thieves busted

The police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of vehicle lifters operating in the region with the arrest of two gang members and seized three vehicles, including two Alto cars and a Maruti 800, from their possession.

The police today booked a Chandigarh cop, Naresh Kumar, in a dowry case on the complaint of Geetanjali, a resident of Yamunanagar. The case was registered after the complainant approached the SSP, Mohali, who ordered investigation in the matter.

On the complaint of the Punjab Vigilance Department, the police has booked Paras Ram, a resident of Sohana, for providing false documents to get his Mahindra Scorpio registered.
