Now, SHGs to deliver driving licences

Zirakpur to have slaughterhouse
Zirakpur, June 17
The Zirakpur Municipal Council is planning to set up a slaughterhouse at Gazipur village to maintain hygiene in shops selling meat.The issue of setting up a slaughterhouse is likely to be discussed in MC meeting, scheduled to be held on Friday. The proposal has been mooted after the Zirakpur MC realised that meat was being sold without verification from veterinarians. Moreover, the animals were being slaughtered in shops leading to mess and the possibility of spread of an infection.
BSNL subscribers a harried lot
Zirakpur, June 17
Inconvenience was caused to a large number of BSNL subscribers of Baltana and surrounding areas, as telephone, broadband and mobile connections have been affected due to cutting of a cable during the digging work of a drain on the Choice road. According to a BSNL official, more than 100 connections of Baltana and surrounding areas had been suffered, as MC workers had started the digging work on the Choice road to lay down the drain line.
Burgeoning Traffic
Roads to be widened
Mohali, June 17
Chairman of the District Planning Board Narinder Sharma said roads of the town would be widened and strengthened to cope with the traffic which had increased over the years. Sharma said Rs 15 crore would be spent on widening and strengthening the road leading from the cremation ground to the PCL chowk. The work would start from July 1.

High-tension lines to go underground

The overhead high tension lines running along the Balongi-Mohali bus stand road will be laid underground to enable widening of the road. According to sources, decision will be taken at the executive committee meeting of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority here today.
MC lacks procedure to supervise task

Lawyer, son thrashed

High drama was witnessed at the Sector 22 police station when a well-known city-based human rights lawyer Rajwinder Singh Bains alleged that he along with his son Utsav Bains were allegedly thrashed by cops led by police post in charge sub-inspector JS Bhullar.
Road safety pamphlets distributed

As a part of the traffic awareness campaign, 50 NCC cadets today distributed road safety pamphlets in the city. Traffic police officials divided the NCC cadets in five groups and deployed them at five different light points, including Government Press light point, Sectors 22 and 23 light point, Aroma light point, Transport light point and Tribune Chowk.

Mangoes ruling the roost in markets

Scholarship for students
Panchkula, June 17
The Panchkula Engineering College, Mouli, Barwala, has introduced scholarship schemes for students on the basis of their Class XII marks.Chairman of the college Shrawan Gupta said students securing more than 90 per cent marks would get a scholarship of Rs 25,000, while students with more than 80 per cent marks would be awarded Rs15,000 from the next academic session.
