No Man-preet for garlands, bouquets

Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Manpreet Singh Badal today set an example which others of his clan would find hard to follow. Manpreet, who was to preside over a state-level lucky coupon prize distribution function of the small savings department at the Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan here, desired through an office order issued on June 1 that there should be no wasteful expenditure on items like garlands, bouquets, refreshment and mementos for him and accompanying officers of the department.

Despite the Supreme Court ruling prohibiting the chaining of the mentally disturbed, a 30-year old of Dholewal village is being treated like cattle. Balwinder Singh, mentally disturbed after meeting with an accident four years ago, has been chained by his family at a shelter meant for livestock in their house.

Two nabbed for stealing 60 rice bags

The police claims to have busted a gang of thieves involved in committing theft in various districts. The police laid a naka near a bridge on the national highway at Chowkiman village and intercepted a Mahindra Pickup (PB 32 G 8884).
