Cop told to search girl who married against parents’ consent
New Delhi, June 16 Chanchal married Gaurav Sharma on May 18 at a temple. Her father Kashi Ram Sharma lodged an FIR at the Vijay Vihar police station against
Gaurav, alleging that he had kidnapped his minor daughter. However, Chanchal claimed to be an adult and moved the Delhi High Court on May 31 seeking police protection. But, her plea was dismissed as the prosecution “wrongly” proved that she was a minor when she married
Gaurav. But the police found that according to Chanchal’s school certificates, her date of birth was May 12, 1992, which meant that she was 18 years and 6 days old on the date of her marriage. Additional sessions judge Kamini Lau directed the DCP to produce Chanchal before the court on June 19. The court also took note of the fact that the girl had earlier approached the high court, stating threat to her life from her parents. “Chanchal had previously approached the court apprehending danger to her life. And now she is not traceable. This is a matter of worry,” the court said. The matter came to the court after
Gaurav, arrested on June 10 on the complaint of Chanchal’s father, applied for bail.
The court had directed the police to produce the girl today, but the investigating officer said that she was handed over to her family, which claimed that she was missing. |

Vehicles chocking Noida built
Noida, June 16 Some 5 lakh vehicles ply in the district daily, of which 50 per cent are from other states. About 80 per cent of these vehicles are from Delhi and Haryana. These swanky bikes and luxury cars are indicative of the prosperity of the middle class, but this large vehicle population has created a big problem for the traffic and parking in the towns. In GB Nagar only, for a population of 14 lakh, the number of vehicles has crossed 5 lakh. G.B. Nagar boasts of being an education, IT and software, entertainment hub and lately commercial complexes. The number of vehicles is enormous due to these factors. With a new road that will be used to enter Greater Noida from Sector-71 and Trans Hindon, the vehicular flow through the city roads is set to increase further. According to ARTO, Jai Shankar Tiwari, 2.3 lakh vehicles have been registered since 1997 when GB Nagar district was made. Over 20& of the vehicles have been bought by Noida residents from Faridabad as Haryana has more attractive tax structure. These vehicles are registered in Faridabad, Palwal, Gurgaon but ply in Noida. Of the total number of vehicles, the ARTO, Noida, has registered 30 per cent cars and 50 per cent three-wheelers. All this is adding to chaos on roads and clashes for parking space. People feel that the number of traffic police is too less to cope with the problem. |
