A special Central Bureau of Investigation court today sentenced a former superintendent engineer (SE) of the UT electricity department, VP Dhingra, who was held guilty in a graft case on Friday, to two years’ rigorous imprisonment. CBI special judge Darshan Singh also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on him.

Aid under old-age pension up
Chandigarh, May 8 The Chandigarh administration has increased the financial assistance given under old-age pension, pension to widows and destitute women and pension to disabled persons from Rs 250 per month per beneficiary to Rs 500 per month from March 1. Pensioners belonging to below poverty line families will get an additional Rs 200 per month under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme and the Indira Gandhi National Disabled Pension Scheme of the National Social Assistance Programme.
