Urinal a source of nuisance for school kids
Jalandhar, April 20 The school is virtually a mess as the urinal situated for past more than eight years has been a major cause of trouble for the girls who have to pass that stretch everyday. It was owing to the stinking smell that the school was forced to seal their windows facing the urinal. “We had to shift one of the classes which was just behind the portion of the wall where urinal is constructed. We are using this room as a store,” said a
school employee. This despite the fact that the school authorities arranged a sweeper to clean the urinal, which had aggravated the situation as the stench was unbearable. Principal Meenakshi Bhardwaj said they hired a sweeper to clean the urinal on daily basis but it failed to serve the purpose. “Being a public urinal it remains busy throughout the day. And the situation becomes worse when girls had to pass this stretch while men are easing themselves,” she rued. To add to the embarrassment to the girls are the men who usually pass lewd comments at girls and keep standing outside the urinal. “We cannot help control this problem, though we keep raising this issue with the railway authorities,” she added. Even girls rued that many a time men ease themselves outside the urinal, adding to their woes. “Men use the entire wall till the entrance for easing themselves,” said a Class X student. As if this was not enough, the railway authorities had almost started construction of another urinal just outside
the main gate. “The timely intervention of the higher authorities of school in
this matter solved the problem,” said the Principal. Station Superintendent of Jalandhar railway station Ashok Kumar said he was not aware of as to who got the urinal constructed outside the school. “The urinal has not been constructed by the railway authorities,” he claimed. Even Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vinay Bublani expressed his ignorance about the urinal but later said that he would check the status with officials concerned. |

Harminder, who belongs to Ghudaani Kalan village in Ludhiana district, was here a few days back to attend a function in the memory of martyrs of Johlaan village. He gifted statues of two village martyrs which he created without charging any cost to
the village. The 28-year-old artist, who donated self-made statues of two martyrs to the village panchayat, shared his journey with The Tribune. “Even while pursuing graduation, I considered sculpting as my hobby. It was only in the last year of my graduation that I chose it as a profession. I joined a two-year sculpting diploma course and have carved more than 1,000 items of sculpting and modern art since then,”
said Harminder. He won the first position in Punjabi University zonal-level competition for his exhibits for three consecutive years. Bank account hacked: Victim yet to get money back
Jalandhar, April 20 This money is part of the Rs 66 lakh that were
illegally transferred from the account of Hemant Beri. The police had registered a case on January 28 under section 420 of the IPC and section 66 of Information Technology Act 2000 at the division no 3 police
station. Acting on the complaint, the bank immediately credited Rs 40 lakh back to the account with assurance that remaining amount would be deposited in the
coming days. Smelling involvement of senior employee of information technology division of the bank, the complainant alleged that computers with Internet Protocol addresses of foreign countries were used for these fraudulent transactions. “Amount of Rs 26.48 lakh was transferred to 38 account holders of PNB. On January 25, all these 38 accounts were frozen and the bank told us that balance of Rs 10.87 lakh is still lying in the accounts. However, the bank expressed its inability to transfer this amount to our accounts. Surprisingly, amount was continued to be withdrawn even from the frozen accounts, even as late as on March 5,” said Hemant Beri. Citing example of one such account, he said one
of the 38 accounts was opened with bank branch at Thangal Bazar, Imphal with nil balance on
Januray 16, 2010. “Surprisingly, a duplicate debit card was issued by PNB, Maharani Bagh Branch, New Delhi. We have failed to understand that how a branch of New Delhi can issue a debit card for the account which is opened in Imphal that too with zero balance,” he rued. He also alleged that though account holder cannot withdraw more than Rs 25,000 in a single day, but in this case bank system allowed the withdrawal of more than the said amount. |

Their work could have been monitored by government supervisors, he added.
