Ban on pvt tubewells: Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Chand Verma has issued ban orders on the installation of private tubewells or public drinking water connection within a radius of 100 m of all drinking water schemes set up by the Public Health and Engineering Department in the district. The DC said the orders had been issued to maintain adequate regular drinking water supply to the people of the district in summers.

Degrees awarded: The convocation-cum-prize distribution function of Rao Abhay Singh (Postgraduate) College of Education was held on the college campus at the nearby Saharanwas village here on Saturday. Education and Health Minister Geeta Bhukkal was the chief guest. Degrees were awarded to 200 BEd and 50 MEd pupil teachers of the college. Bhukkal, who laid the foundation stone of Shrimati Shanti Devi College of Nursing, announced a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the college.

PO arrested: The police on Saturday arrested proclaimed offender (PO) Rohtas after one and a half years. He has been allegedly involved in the double murder of Hadev Singh and Shiv Kumar in Jagadhri. A group of over 20 persons had allegedly murdered two youths - Hardev Singh and Shiv Kumar - in Jagadhri on October 10, 2008 following an old rivalry. Thereafter, the police had arrested seven accused while the rest absconded.
