Heat wave claims 2 lives
Chandigarh, April 18
The ongoing heat wave conditions claimed the city’s first victims, an eight-year-old boy residing in Bapu Dham colony and a middle-aged man whose body was discovered near the city’s train station.

City sizzled during day
Chandigarh, April 18
It was yet another hot day for residents of the city and neighbouring parts of Punjab and Haryana today, with the maximum temperature rising to 42.7°C, 0.1 degree Celsius higher than yesterday. The minimum was also 1.7°C higher at 26.0°C.

Raw sewage makes life hell for residents
Mohali, April 18
Mohali residents now face a double whammy. As if putting up with the nauseating stench of raw sewage flowing down the N choe from Chandigarh was not enough, the Chandigarh municipal corporation is passing off a substantial volume of raw sewage discharged from its Diggian sewage treatment as ‘treated’ waste matter. This is posing an added health risk to residents of this town.

PU told to upgrade labs, libraries

27 lives lost in 3 months
Zirakpur, April 18
Increasing number of road accidents on the Zirakpur- Lalru stretch and adjoining roads in the periphery, on this side of the City Beautiful, contradict tall claims by the Mohali police about an improved situation in road mishaps. Official figures reveal 27 deaths on the Zirakpur- Lalru stretch during the past three months. There have been more than 55 accidents during the corresponding period.

Dug up 6 months ago, road awaits completion
Chandigarh, April 18
The road that has been dug up at Sector 15, causing inconvenience to residents. Peeved over the “callous” attitude of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, residents of Sector 15 have rued that the work on the internal road, dug up six months back, is yet to be completed causing inconvience to them.Area residents said the department concerned was yet to float tenders for the work. They said: “If this was the condition of the Mayor’s ward, one can imagine the fate of other areas of the city.”

Eight cases of burglary solved
Chandigarh, April 18
The police today claimed to have solved eight cases of burglary with the arrest of 22-year-old Hayat Singh, a resident of Ram Darbar, who was arrested on April 16.The police said a laptop, eight LCDs, eight mother boards, eight DVDs, eight RAMs, 11 hard discs, two mobile phones and a camera had been recovered from the accused.

Admn officials inspect N-choe

Officials of the Chandigarh administration and the municipal corporation visit the nullah crossing through Sector 23 in Chandigarh on Sunday. The UT Administration initiated the process to clean up the leakages and dirty water in the N-Choe here today. In the first step, a committee has been constituted, which will be headed by a former Chief Engineer to make recommendations, particularly with regard to the cleaning of the choe portion flowing through Kajheri.

Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur visited Gazipur village here today.While airing their grievances, villagers told the MP from Patiala that around 70 years back they had been brought to Gazipur from Dandrolon village, near Raipur Rani, to clean the forest land. They claimed that after completion of the work, they settled there and started tiling the land. Since then, they had been earning their bread and butter from the same land. A month before the Class X board results are out, city schools, on the basis of pre-board results, have started the provisional admission process for Class XI, as a result 95 per cent of Class XI seats are expected to be full.

Animation course
Chandigarh, April 18
Aspiring animators can pursue degree course in animation with India and US-recognised degree at the International School of Animation. According to Aneet Goel, CFO, IPOMG Animation India, the school was a subsidiary of IPOMG, LLC Globally, and was in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, India (JNTUH) and Ferris State University, USA (FSU). It would offer degree in Bachelors of Science in Digital Animation and Game Design.
