A senior industry promotional officer (SIPO) with the industries department, a retired surveyor from the PWD and two truck operators have been arrested for allegedly smuggling heroin worth Rs 4.5 crore here.
Water scarcity, but wastage continues

New roads planned for each assembly segment

The Punjab government intends to construct new 20 km-stretch roads in each assembly segment in the state at an estimated cost of Rs 234 crore during the current fiscal, according to minister for jails & tourism Hira Singh Gabria.

25 given prosthetic devices
Ludhiana, April 18
Twentyfive physically challenged persons were given prosthetic devices at a free camp organised by the Bharat Vikas Parishad Charitable Trust in collaboration with Canara Bank, BRS Nagar branch, here today.
Narendra Mittal, convener of “viklang sahayta cell” of the parishad said 807 camps for the distribution of free prosthetic devices, including calipers, wheelchairs, tricycles and hearing aids, to more than 32,000 physically challenged persons had been organised.

Man kills wife
Ludhiana, April 18
A migrant in his late 20s allegedly killed his wife last night. According to the police, accused Prakash strangulated his wife around 1.30 am and fled the scene. The reason behind the killing is not known. Prakash had moved into a rented accommodation at Champa Nagar, Shimlapuri, along with his wife about a week ago.
