Satpal Maharaj’s Sadbhawna Sammelan ends
Haridwar, April 14 The camp is an annual affair in Haridwar that falls on Baisakhi organised by the Manav Utthan Samiti Prem Nagar Ashram. The sheer number of followers of Satpal Maharaj was the talk of the town and he proved that he has both religious and political foothold among the masses. Satpal Maharaj is also a Member of Parliament from the Pauri Garhwal constituency and has been contesting from the Garhwal Parliamentary seat since 1989 becoming Union state Railway Minister in 1996. Professing national integrity, communal harmony and world peace, the convention was successful as people from all over the world participated at the camp. Terming the essence of internal knowledge as of prime importance, Satpal Maharaj pointed that while humanity had leaped in physical development and material things, yet people were lacking internal knowledge. “We are not able to produce personalities like Chhatrapati Shivaji, Rani Laxmi Bai, Maharana Pratap and reformers like Swami Vivekananda and Meera Bai, all because we have forgotten education that lights our internal knowledge. By awakening of internal knowledge we can once again become world leaders or Vishwa Guru,” said Maharaj. Maharaj further cited the example of King Bhagirath saying that it was due to his toil that the river Ganga ascended on the earth and now the same holy river is providing drinking water as well as irrigation water to people in India, besides generating employment. “So, if we work hard like Bhagirath, then the whole world will be an ideal place,” said Maharaj. At the concluding convention former state cabinet minister Amrita Rawat too addressed the followers emphasising on the need of having a true guru who put common people on the right path of truth and humanity. Noted bhajan singers Pramod Kumar, Prithvi Singh, Raj Sharma and Kapil Sharma sang bhajans. |

Mayor stalls major plans, seeks MNA’s removal
Dehradun, April 14 He cited MNA’s anti-board attitude as reason for his refusal to carry out the prefixed plans. Chamoli said: “I will not tolerate the authoritarian behaviour of state government where it removed the former MNA in an abrupt manner without letting anybody have an inkling about it, and thereupon imposing someone who is infamous for his tarnished image.” The Mayor said it was up to the government to decide whether it wanted the MC Board to work or see it paralysed. He expected the change in the position of MNA quite soon. From the day one, the MNA made his stance quite clear against hoarding policy where the hoardings’ removal was to start from April 8. By bypassing the meeting called by the Mayor to discuss the removal of illegal hoardings and suspending an inspector involved in the campaign and divesting Tax Suprintendent Rajesh Naithani of his charge of removing hoardings, Bodai had steadfastly been reversing Mayor’s agenda to pursue the controversial anti-hoarding policy. Now, the Mayor had made it clear that he was not going to carry forward the sanitation drive and hearing on house tax policy in the backdrop of MNA’s attitude. With this move, the Mayor had prepared himself well in placing the state government in the dock. “The state government, which should have supported us in removing the illegal hoardings to save the city, has clearly become a party in favour of hoarding mafia. It could have played a role of mediator between us and hoarding owners to sort out the issue but surprisingly by nullifying the anti-hoarding policy, it has exposed its real agenda,” he said. Having been strengthened by the strike of employees against the MNA, the Mayor seemed more determined to see Bodai removed from the position of MNA. |

We all just need to contribute our bit for society,” Kalyani added. “Government employees get 52 Saturdays and 52 Sundays as off days out of 365 days of the year, then who says we don’t have time. The state unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party
(BSP) paying homage to Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 119th birth anniversary held a demonstration in favour of its four demands at the Gandhi Park here today. The party was in favour of some amendments in the Women’s Reservation Bill. State president of the party Tanvir Singh said rather than 33 per cent reservation it should be 50 per cent reservation for women. And in this 50 per cent, there should be a separate quota for
SCs, STs and OBCs and poor women, otherwise the Bill would only help women of the rich and influential class. The party also protested against the burning issue of price rise. Besides, Tanvir Singh demanded that the lengthy and complicated procedure of caste certificate be made easy in
Uttarakhand. The BSP’s fourth issue was increasing unemployment in the state. He alleged that no strong efforts were being made to get employment for the youth of the
state. Mussoorie: Congress workers observed the birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar at a simple ceremony at the Congress Bhavan today. MLA Jot Singh
Gunsola, along with other Congress workers, paid floral tributes at the portrait of the chief architect of the Indian constitution.
Gunsola said Dr Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891, in a very poor family and was a victim of one of the deep-rooted evils of our society,
untouchability. He was also the first Law Minister of free India. Later, when questioned about his newfound love for Dr
Ambedkar, Gunsola firmly stated that Dr Ambedkar had roots in the Congress and was an ardent party activist during freedom struggle. He further said the BSP was a late entrant to politics and the Congress had been observing the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar even before its inception as political party. When confronted that this was to woe Dalit voters in UP, he refuted the claims and said all such dignitaries were respected by the
Congress. Mahila Congress president Bharosi Rawat, Nand Lal, Javed Khan, Shailendar
Bisht, Satish Dhaundiyal, BP Kukreti and others were present on the
occasion. Nainital: Dalit leaders who make it to state assemblies and Parliament must not alienate themselves from their community and instead provide a voice to the issues concerning Dalits in the country. This was stated by President of the Uttarakhand unit of the Congress Yash Pal Arya at a function organised by the Shilpkar Sabha at Tallital to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar here today. Replying to a question on continuing atrocities on the Dalits across the country, despite the enactment of several laws at various levels, he said: “We should not leave everything to governments. It is time to generate awareness among various segments of society so that the Dalits are treated as equals in every sphere.” A large number of people paid homage to Dr
Ambedkar, the founder of the Indian Constitution, and raised issues pertaining to Dalit rights. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) leader Suresh Arya pointed out that it was a matter of concern that affluent people among the Dalits were involved in purchasing land from other Dalits and further selling them for a profit. He said the Dalits needed to be united to protect their constitutional and other rights. He also advocated reservation in vocations like that of contractors. Several issues pertaining to the Dalits were raised at the meeting. Sarpanch of the Valmiki Sabha in Nainital Girish Bhaiyya raised the issue of a large number of safai karamcharis in Bhawali not getting their wages for the past several months. The Uttarakhand unit of the All-India Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Mahasangh has demanded that the details pertaining to the vacancies in various government departments and corporations be made pubic and the backlog be cleared at the earliest. Besides, it has demanded that reservation be implemented in semi-government and other enterprises coming under the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttaranchal
(SIDCUL). The mahasangh has sought an end to the contractual mode of employment being encouraged by the government. Before the meeting, a large procession was carried out in the town to mark the occasion. Children from various educational institutions and social organisations participated in it. |
