Fire at Vardhman Woollen Mills
: Forty workers at Vardhman Woollen Mills, Ramgarh village, Chandigarh road, today had a narrow escape when fire broke out at the shed. The fire broke out at 3 pm and the process to douse the fire was being carried out till the filing of the report. Three fire tenders were pushed into the service to douse the fire. Though there was no casualty and machinery was also saved, loss worth lakhs of rupees had been estimated. The reason behind the fire was not known.

Painting exhibition
: The First Lady, Usha Vohra, inaugurated a five-day- long painting exhibition organised by the Kesar Art Circle at Kala Kendra, here on Friday. She went around the exhibition and appreciated the diverse art creations at display, adding that different types of medium used in making the paintings had come up well.She later gave away certificates to the 15 trainee participants.

Militant hideout busted in Rajouri: The police on Friday busted a militant hideout and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in the Dori forest in Rajouri district.It said the recovered weapons included 2 AK magazines, 245 AK rounds, 2 grenades, one cell phone, a shawl and some medicines. However, the militants fled the scene.

JCO shoots himself: A JCO on Friday allegedly shot himself to death with his service weapon in Poonch district. “Naib Subedar Ganga Ram of 49 RR committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon at an Army barrack in the Mendhar sector around 2.15 PM,” said Jammu-based Defence PRO, Lt- Col Biplab Nath. Though a court of inquiry was ordered, preliminary investigations showed a domestic feud led to the suicide.

17 structures damaged in fires
: In different incidents of fire across the Kashmir valley, 17 structures were damaged in the past 24 hours. A fire broke out in the house of Assadullah Mir, a resident of Brain Nishat, Srinagar, and spread to the adjacent building,resulting in damage to eight houses. In another fire in Renan Kralgund, Handwara, six shops and a cowshed, were destroyed. Another cowshed was destroyed in a fire in Quilmukam in Bandipora.

Udhampur
14 hurt as truck hits matador
: Fourteen persons, including three minors and two women, were injured when a matador collided with a truck near Jakhani, near here, on Friday. The injured, including the drivers of both vehicles, were rushed to district hospital, Udhampur. The police has registered a case.
