In a classic case of putting the cart before the horse, the Punjab forest & wildlife department spent taxpayers’ money on buying an incinerator without first ensuring power was available to operate it. The incinerator was meant for environmental-friendly disposal of animal carcasses as well as safe disposal of waste.

Two held for evading tax on gold
The gold that was seized from two persons as they tried to ferry it without paying tax at Rajpura on Tuesday. Rajpura, March 16
The police arrested two persons for evading tax and illegally supplying 5-kg gold worth Rs 1 crore.The accused have been identified as Musamikaran of Batala and Kewal Masih of Nangal. They were carrying the gold in a PRTC bus and were frisked by a team of police officials here.

Body found

The railway police (GRP) recovered the body of an unidentified man near the railway godown here this morning.A police team on patrol found the body and informed the higher officials. The body was later sent to the local civil hospital, where it would be kept for 72 hours for identification.

Accused Naresh Kumar Youth stabbed to death over money
Dera Bassi, March 16
A youth was murdered by his companion over money here today. The accused was arrested from the scene by the police.According to sources, Ishant Mehra, a resident of Mubarkpur, was stabbed to death with a knife near the administrative complex here.

The court of additional district and sessions judge Ravi Kumar Sondhi today issued a notice to the UT SSP.The court issued a show-cause notice to SSP SS Srivastva in the Dimpy murder case, in which the latter had been told to deposit Rs 5,000 with the State Legal Services Authority as fine imposed on two inspectors for not deposing.
