Bathinda
Calendar released: The Government Classical and Vernacular Teachers Union, Punjab, on Monday released a calendar of the union during a meeting of the district unit of the union, which was led by district president Barjinder Singh Puhla. The meeting also discussed the problems being faced by the teachers during service.

Annual function: The Different Convent School here organised its annual prize distribution function. Principal Veenu Goyal read the annual report of the school. Area in-charge of the SAD for Bathinda Assembly constituency Sarup Chand Singla was the chief guest. A cultural programme was also held on the occasion.

New official at DEO: Inderjeet Kaur took charge as the district science supervisor in the office of the District Education Officer (Secondary), Bathinda. DEO Harbans Singh Sandhu and SAD councillor Harmandar Singh Sidhu were present.

Phagwara
D.J. Singh promoted
: The Punjab government has promoted Dr D.J. Singh as Joint Director of the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur. He was earlier working as Senior Deputy Director in the academy. Orders to this effect were received today from Mr A.R. Talwar, Principal Secretary, Home Affairs and Justice, Punjab.

3 members of robbers’s gang arrested: The police busted an inter-district gang of robbers and succeeded to nab its three members during a raid near Khalwara and impounded their Maruti car (HR-24F-3525) and seized some sharpedged weapons. DSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh identified the arrested gang members as Mandip Singh, alias Bhura, of Neelowal village under Bilga police station, Gurmeet Singh, alias Meeta, of Kandhola village, near Nurmahal, and Kulwinder Singh, alias Happy of Mangat village under Behram police station. The DSP said their three other accompliances, identified as Tirlochan Singh of Bhojeki village, Pardeep Singh, alias Deepa, of Nagar village, and Sahbi of Muthadha Kalan village escaped in their car (PB-10-7474).

Four-year-old raped: A four-year-old girl was raped inside her house when the entire locality was celebrating Holi. The victim was alone in the house in the Janakpuri colony while other family members were playing Holi. Suddenly, the mother of the girl heard the cries of her daughter and rushed to the house along with her husband. They were shocked to see that Ram Shankar of the same colony was raping their daughter. He has been arrested.
