Lack of recovery van hampers rescue operations
Fatehgarh Sahib, January 1 There have been a number of instances wherein vehicles moving at high speed have collided with accidental vehicles lying at the centre of roads. “If we had a recovery van, we could immediately remove the accidental vehicle off road and get rid of chaos,” said a traffic official. He said the traffic police also lacks various other basic facilities, including manpower, vehicles and other gadgets that help in rescue operations. According to the police, the problem arises during night hours and several people had lost their lives due to delay in rescue and lack of tools to get the injured out of accidental vehicles. The police said once they had to take the help of villagers and truckers to take seven injured persons out of a Scorpio that rammed into a stationed truck on Ludhiana-Chandigarh road and it took more than two hours to take the injured out of the vehicle. “Many people lose their lives when they are taken out form the accidental vehicle, as the police is not trained to take out the injured from vehicles,” said Manjeet Kaur, chairperson of Human Rights Manch of Khamano Block. She said recovery vehicle could help in reducing the chaos. SUVs and other heavy vehicles ram into the stationed vehicles at roadsides that could be towed away by the police due to wrong parking. Wrong parking has lead to accidents on Patiala-Sirhind road, Khanna-Mandi Gobindgarh road and on Ludhiana-Chandigarh road during the past few months. |
