BATHINDA
Nirmal gram yojna: Offices of the Panchayati Raj Department and the Water Supply and Sanitation Department have identified 41 villages from eight blocks of this district for sending their names to the Union Government for consideration under the Nirmal Gram Purskar Yojna. These include Nahiawala, Mehma Swai, Baho Sibia and Teona in Bathinda block; Pucca Khurd, Chak Ruldu Singh Wala, Chak Attar Singh Wala, Kaljharani and Sekhu in Sangat block; Bhai Harjoginder Singh Nagar, Kalyan Sadda, Puhli, Marri, Burj Kahan Singh Wala and Har Rangpura in Nathana block; Harkrishanpura, Mandi Khurd, Mansa Khurd, Gill Khurd, Zaid and Bhaini Chuhar in Rampura block; Kaloke, Sadhana, Kothe Pipli, Gurusar Mehraj, Kothe Baba Sukhananad and Burj Gill in Phul block; Babu Singh Nagar, Basti Surjit Pura, Nawan Kesar Singh Wala, Rajgarh Khurd, Gospura and Gurdit Singhwala in Bhagta Bhaika block; Teona Pujaria and Gurusar Jagga in Talwandi Sabo block; and Bhai Bakhtor, Dhan Singh Khana, Burj, Bagher Mohabbat, Ramgarh Bhunder and Thamangarh in Maur block. Jasvir Singh Aujla, Executive Engineer, Water and Sanitation (Division No. 3), Bathinda, said the villages selected for the purskar would be given Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh by the Centre.

CHANDIGARH

Refresher course ends: An interdisciplinary refresher course on “Contemporary Issues in Social Sciences”, organised by the department of sociology, Panjab University, concluded here today. The participants from 14 disciplines from various parts of the country attended the course. Professor Shelley Walia, director of the academic staff college, said: “Academics should make use of the ‘dialogical’ approach and produce knowledge that works for the betterment of the society.” Professor Sherry Sabbarwal, chairperson, department of sociology, and the coordinator of the course, read the report of the course.
