Nursery Form Fee
Schools reluctant to comply with admn order

Chandigarh, December 18
Though the official circular limiting nursery registration fee to Rs 100 is yet to reach city private schools, they seem to be in no mood to comply with it. Considering it as nothing but the “usual interference” by the administration, most of the schools plan to take up the matter with the Education Secretary.

4 die of swine flu
Chandigarh, December 18
Three persons died of swine flu in the city today. Two of the victims were from Punjab, while one case was from Haryana. The patients had come to the PGI during the past two days. With these, the swine flu toll in the city reached 32. he three who died in the PGI were Harpal Singh, a 25-year-old youth from Ludhiana, Gurmel Singh (47) from Bathinda, and Vicky (20) from Kaithal.

GMADA staff protest after 3 JEs suspended
Mohali, December 18
High drama prevailed at the GMADA office here, when employees of the authority struck work after three junior engineers (JEs) were suspended over alleged dereliction of duty in preventing forcible occupation of around 60 vacant flats in different parts of the town.

Migratory birds make Sukhna their home
Migratory birds have arrived in large number at Sukhna Lake this year as well.Chandigarh, December 18
With nearly 8,000 migratory birds already gathered at the northern end of the Sukhna lake, the number of these Siberian visitors landing here is likely to shoot up in the next one week. The birds have also been spotted in other water bodies in the city, including those at Chattbir zoo, Dhanas lake and the botanical garden.

Police conducts survey in Sec 15

The UT engineering department and the Chandigarh Police today conducted a survey at Sector 15 to check the feasibility of the sector-sealing scheme for installing gates at entry points. A team of the engineering wing, headed by the UT administration’s chief architect Sumit Kaur, DSP (Central) Jagbir Singh, the SHO of the Sector 11 police station and representatives of the resident welfare association today visited the sites.

Mohali to have master plan for traffic management
Mohali, December 18
Mohali will soon have a master plan to facilitate vehicular traffic and parking management. The decision was taken at a meeting of Mohali district administration and GMADA officials chaired by the Commissioner, Patiala range, Jasbir Singh Bir, here today.

PU old-age home blueprint out

Taking note of the suggestion of its alumni and employees, the Panjab University authorities have prepared a blueprint of the old-age home to be built on the south campus in Sector 25.

The three-day 4th Heritage Festival, organised by the Haryana Tourism, started today. Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia inaugurated the festival. The festival is organised to celebrate the centuries-old heritage of Pinjore town and its gardens. 

Scorpio vehicle catches fire
Kharar, December 18
A Scorpio vehicle caught fire near Balongi sales tax barrier at mid night.The incidence took place when Tejvir Singh and Govinder Singh, both residents of Sunny Enclave, were coming back from Sector 70 in Mohali at around 12.40 mid night. Both Tejvir and Govinder are studying animation from Sector 34, Chandigarh.

Four held with smack
Rajpura, December 18
The Rajpura police today arrested four persons with smack from Ambala road in Rajpura. The accused were traveling in a car towards Rajpura from Ambala and were intervened by a police party specially deployed on the road on a tip off.

Two brothers killed in road accident
Rajpura, December 18
Two young men, both brothers and said to be in their twenties, were killed in an accident near Shambhu village yesterday. The two have been identified as Pradeep and Sanjit, both residents of Shambhu village.

Whiskey sent to police custody
Chandigarh, December 18
With the recovery of counterfeit documents and bogus seals more cases of forgery and cheating are likely to be filed against Davinder Singh alias Whiskey in the near future, according to the police. During the course of interrogation he admitted to have prepared several fake documents using bogus seals.

Disturbed by his prolonged illness, an Indira Colony resident attempted suicide after cutting his vein at his residence on Thursday.

Body identified
Mohali, December 18 An unidentified person, who was found lying unconscious in Phase XI, here, following which he succumbed to his injuries at GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, was today identified as 55 year-old, Sanjeev Sood, a resident of Sector 21, Chandigarh. He was cousin of CJM, Ropar.

The Chandigarh Kho-kho Association (CKKA) would conduct trials to select the Chandigarh kho-kho teams (boys and girls), which would participate in the five-day 29th Junior National Kho-kho Championship to be held at Margao, Goa, from January 20.
