Energy conservation award: Haryana has bagged the national award for promotion of energy conservation during 2008-09. Stating this on Saturday, director, Haryana Department of Renewable Energy, Sumita Misra said every year the Government of India select states to present national awards for their contribution to the promotion of energy conservation. She said Haryana had been adjudged for the national award by the Union Ministry of Power. The award would be presented at a national-level function to be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on December 14.

2 get life term for dowry death: Additional District and Sessions Judge AK Shori here has sentenced Saroj’s mother-in-law Leelawati and sister-in-law Sunita to life imprisonment holding them guilty of causing her death. A fine of Rs 5,000 each was also imposed on them. According to the prosecution,
Saroj, who received severe burn injuries, was admitted to the PGI,
Rohtak, on June 23, 2008. Before succumbing to her burn injuries, Saroj gave a statement to the Judicial Magistrate, in which she alleged that her in-laws used to torture her for more dowry and on June 23, 2008, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law following an altercation set her afire.
Former minister dead: Nar Singh Dhanda (64), a former Haryana minister, died here on Sunday. His cremation will take place at his native village, Sandal Kheri, at 11 am on Monday. Dhanda was elected MLA for the first time in 1982 from the Pai assembly constituency of the district. He was again elected MLA in 1987 and remained a minister in the Devi Lal government and held the portfolios of food and civil supply, forests and social welfare. He was reportedly suffering from
cancer.

Police station building: Director General of Police RS Dalal will inaugurate the 33rd newly constructed modern police station building of the Haryana police in Pehowa, 25 km from here, on Monday. A Haryana police spokesperson said the Haryana Police Housing Corporation, Panchkula, had constructed its new building at a cost of Rs 64 lakh. The total covered area of this modern police station was 8,600 sq feet.

Youth killed in mishap: Bhagat Singh (28), a resident of Mau village, near
Dharuhera, was killed on the spot when his tractor-trolley was hit by a tractor-trailer on NH-8 at Saban
Chowk, 16 km from here, on Saturday. The mishap occurred when he was crossing the highway at the above chowk to go to a brick-kiln.
