Ellenabad ready for Cong rally today
Sirsa, November 28 However, the real motive of the rally, which is testing the waters for the future byelection, is an open secret. Ellenabad seat has been lying vacant since the Indian National Lok Dal supremo and former Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala resigned from this seat on November 4. Although the Election Commission is yet to announce dates for the byelection, it will definitely be held in the next three or four months. Ellenabad constituency was carved out in the delimitation exercise by including villages of erstwhile Darba Kalan and Ellenabad (Reserve) assembly seats. Chautala himself toured all villages of Ellenabad assembly seat from October 30 to November 2 and although he did not give any hint of the possible candidate of his party, his younger son Abhey Singh Chautala has not left anyone in doubt that he would be contesting the byelection. Squabbling in the Congress came to the fore twice before this rally. Once, when the party had to postpone the rally to November 29 at the instance of Sirsa MP Ashok Tanwar after Sirsa independent MLA and a minister in Haryana Gopal Kanda had already announced November 23 as its date. The second one, when party workers came to blows in front of the HPCC President Phool Chand Mulana during his visit Sirsa on Tuesday to review preparations for the rally. Several contenders, including Bharat Singh Beniwal, who lost to Chautala in October 13 election, Anil Khod, son of a former MLA Lal Chand Khod and KV Singh, a former aide of Hooda, have emerged as the contenders for the Congress ticket. The name of Ranjit Singh, former deputy chairman of the state planning board, is also doing the rounds. |
