While city residents are primarily depending on private practitioners to detect preliminary symptoms of swine flu, the latter are themselves in the dark. The health authorities have claimed to sensitise people about swine flu, but they have failed to extend it to doctors, especially general physicians.

“Wardriving” as a follow-up to the survey of the Cyber Security Research Centre reveals no danger zone for outside data infiltration in the UT, at the moment. More than 300 Wi-fi networks in the city are at present under study for any distress signals or data pocketing by outside sources.

Organising ceremonies in parks of various sectors in the city might have made a few cheerful but for majority of the residents it is proving to be a nightmare. Garbage and leftovers remain littered near venues like community centres and parks for days together. Such events not only deface and destroys the parks but also add to the noise pollution.

Bakr-Id celebrated with fervour
Chandigarh, November 28
Thousands of Muslim devotees offered prayers on Bakr-Id at various mosques in the tri-city. Children and women celebrated the festival with spiritual fervour and gaiety. The festival marks the tradition of sacrifice, as it is believed that Hazrat Ibrahim was ordered by Allah to sacrifice the life of his only son. The devil tried to stop him but he moved ahead with his mission. Seeing the devotion of Ibrahim, Allah placed a ‘dumbas’ on his son’s head. Thus, Hazrat Ibrahim’s son was saved.

5 ITBP officials hurt in mishap

Uppal manager granted bail

A local court today granted bail to the local manager of the Uppal Group, who was arrested yesterday by the economic offences wing of the UT police. The court of chief judicial magistrate J Sidhu today granted bail to Balwant Singh Arora, the manager, after he furnished bail bonds of Rs 20,000.

A local court yesterday acquitted Ranjit Bajaj, son of an IAS-officer couple, of all charges in the case of obstructing a public servant from doing his duty.

Dhanas resident thrashed
Chandigarh, November 28
Vishal Sharma, a resident of Dhanas, reported that Kulbir Singh of the same locality along with others had beaten him up on Thursday night. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. A case under Sections 323/325/34 of the IPC has been registered by the Sector 11 police station.

3 held for making pirated CDs
Zirakpur, November 28
The police arrested three shopkeepers while making pirated CDs of recently released Bollywood movies today. The police also seized 53 pirated CDs, two computers and a laptop from the possession of the accused.

Two held for selling banned items

The local police seized about 400 conches and nearly 8,000 ‘kodian’ from two showrooms in Sector 20 on the basis of a PFA complaint and arrested two persons here this evening.

Saupin’s Fighters beat BTS Challengers
Chandigarh, November 28
Saupin’s Fighters defeated BTS Challengers by 21 runs in the BTS and Saupin’s Cricket Tournament being held at the school complex here today. After winning the toss, Saupin’s Fighters elected to bat first and scored 120 runs for the loss of two wickets in stipulated 15 overs. Anand (45) and Prabjeet (27) were the top scorers for Saupin’s, while Saurav (1 for 25) was the main wicket taker for Saupin’s.
