Cyber Olympiad: Vibhor and Dipender Singh of LRS DAV Senior Secondary School have qualified for appearing in the national-level Cyber Olympiad examination to be conducted by the Hyderabad-based Unified Council on November 29, principal Kusum Khungar informed on 
Tuesday.

Food kit distributed: Shri Guru Nanak Modikhana Society on Tuesday distributed food kits to 21 needy families during its monthly meeting. The meeting was presided over by Charanjit Singh Tinna. Bhai Nirpal Singh and others performed shabad kirtan on the occasion.

Homeopathic medical camps for kids held: As many as 225 children were examined and given medicines by Dr Vimal Trikha, a member of the Punjab Council of Homeopathic System of Medicines and Dr Rajesh Deep Goyal during a free homeopathic medical camp organised at the Kilkari International Playway School here, principal Bharti Aggarwal informed on Tuesday. During 
another health camp organised by the Aggarwal Navyuvak Sabha at the Sutlej Public School here, blood samples of 350 persons were taken for testing thyroid, lipid profile and diabetes, informed Ankur Garg.

Shifting of PSEB office resented: The Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat has resented the shifting of PSEB sub division number I office to the divisional office complex that is located on the Malout road. Hanuman Dass Goyal member of the state executive Hanuman Dass Goyal regretted in a memorandum faxed to the PSEB chairman on Tuesday that consumers will have to now traverse 4 km distance to pay electricity bills or to get their grievances redressed.

Sports meet: Sukhwant, Supriya Kamboj, Shivpal, Bindiya Godara, Gurpinder Singh and Sehajpreet were adjudged as best athletes in their respective category during the sports meet held in Sachkhand Convent School here, principal Golden Kaul informed on Tuesday.

: The Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) declared results of B.A./B.Sc. Part-III, B.Com. Part-II, B.Sc. (I.T.) Part-II and III, B.Sc. (biotechnology) Part II and III examinations here today. Exams of these classes had been held in September. The results of B.C.A Part-I and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) would be declared tomorrow (November 180.

Dental health fortnight ends:
Dental health fortnight, organised by the district health authorities, concluded in the district on Tuesday. District dental health officer Dr JL Singla said as many as 3,420 persons were examined and treated during the fortnight in the hospitals at Bathinda, Rampura and Goniana Mandi. About 4,000 school children were also examined for various dental ailments during the fortnight.

Pulse polio programme: As many as 19,156 children of migrant labourers between the age 0 and 5 years were administered “anti-polio” drops during a three-day pulse polio programme from November 15 to November 17 in the district, according to civil surgeon Dr Neelam Bajaj here on Tuesday.

100 students donate blood: The NSS units of local DAV College in collaboration with local the Naujwan Welfare Society and the NCC unit of the college organised a blood donation camp on the college campus here on Tuesday. About 100 students donated blood at the camp. The camp was inaugurated by second-in-command, ITBP 27th Battalion, RK Verma.

Delegation meets Janjua:
A four member delegation of the IAS Officers’ Association on Tuesday met Punjab’s Director Industries VK Janjua. Janjua reportedly told the delegation, led by the association president Sarvesh Kaushal, that he had made a written complaint to the Punjab Government against Ludhiana-based businessman PR Misra. However, instead of action in his complaint, the Punjab Vigilance allegedly acted on Mishra’s complaint and arrested him.

Council to hold rally today: Over 1,500 activists of the National Council of Dalit Christian (NCDC), Punjab, will participate at a national-level rally to be organised by the council in New Delhi on Wednesday. Activist belongings to diocese of Jalandhar will join the rally at Jantar Mantar under the leadership of Father Robby K., Coordinator, NCDC. Christians and Muslims belonging to the Dalit background have been demanding reservation and other benefits on a par with that of the Dalit communities of Sikh and Buddhists.

Medical allowance: During a press conference organised by the Bharat Central Pensioners’ Confederation, Prof V.S. Jolly, Editor of Pensioner’s Friend, said their organisation had urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to grant a fixed medical allowance of Rs 1,000 per month to 36 lakh Central Government pensioners. S.S. Ramachandran, Chairman, and Sham Sunder, secretary-general, of the Bharat Central Pensioners Confederation, Delhi, insisted on the speedy settlement of anomalies arising out of the Sixth Central Pay Commission report.

Motivational lecture: A motivational lecture for the students of the local Trinity College was held here today. Renowned National Shooting Coach and the coach of Olympic Gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, Sunny Thomas was here at the local Trinity College for a motivational lecture. He spoke at length on the success saga of Abhinav Bindra, his initial career as a shooter and his winning the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. Earlier, students interacted with Thomas during which he discussed his life as a shooting coach.

The Chandigarh Handball Association (CHA) will organise a three-day 23rd State Junior (boys) Handball Championship at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector-32, from November 21. Chandigarh junior (boys) handball team will leave for the nationals on November 24. Last date for the entries is November 20.

DC appointed nodal officer
: The Haryana government has appointed Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria as nodal officer to regularly monitor the progress of the hotel and other tourism-related projects in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rewari and Sonepat districts for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games-2010. The orders issued on Monday stated that the joint director of the Tourism Department, Prem Sagar, would assist him on behalf of the department.

KAITHAL
Railway crossing sought
: A large number of villagers sat on dharna on the Kurukshetra-Jind section of the railway tract near Kutabpur village here on Sunday. They were demanding setting up of a railway crossing at the site where two persons were killed in an accident when the train hit the tractor which was passing through the unmanned railway crossing. The district administration and railway officials pursued the agitated villagers to lift the dharna. The talks were going on between the protesters and the railway authorities till the filing of the report.

NCC employee dead
: Mahavir, NCC employee and younger brother of senior journalist Rajinder Mehra, died on Sunday at his residence in Gannaur following a cardiac arrest and brain haemorrhage. He was cremated on Monday. He was the state president of NCC staff union affiliated with the Sarva Karamchari Sangh (SKS). A large number of people, including Chief Parliamentary Secretary Jaiveer Balmiki, former MLA Padam Singh Dahiya, leaders of political parties and mediapersons condoled the deceased’s family.

One dead
: Amarnath (45), son of Sukh Ram of Gatwaad village, near Barthin, in Ghumarwin subdivision, suddenly slipped from a tree on Monday and died. Reports said the villager had climbed the tree to cut fodder leaves for his cattle when he suddenly lost balance and came hurtling down headlong. He received grievous head injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead. Village elders have urged the government to provide suitable financial help to the poor family.

HAMIRPUR
Leopard kills 3 goats:
A leopard killed three goats on Monday at Karsoh village under Toani Devi block. The villager, Praveen Kumar, said a leopard attacked his cattle in his cowshed and killed three goats. The DFO, Hamirpur, said he had sent a team of forest officials to the spot to prepare a damage report for giving compensation and trap would also be laid to catch the leopard.

AIDS camp:
The government will launch a special AIDS awareness campaign from December 1 to 25 so that people from all walks of life can be urged to cooperate in the fight against the dreaded disease. This was stated by Health Minister Rajiv Bindal while presiding over a review meeting of the AIDS Control Society, here today. “At present, there are 44 integrated counselling and testing centres (ICTC) and two anti-retro viral therapy centres, providing treatment and counselling to AIDS patients,” he said.

Patwari suspended:
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla today ordered suspension of patwari of Thub Halqa on public complaints. Tehsildar (S) Jammu has been appointed inquiry officer to look into the allegations levelled by land holders of the village against the patwari. The Tehsildar has been asked to conduct the inquiry and submit the report within a fortnight.

Veterinary camp held: A veterinary camp was organised by 15 Sector Rashtriya Rifles at Ghoragali village today. As per an Army spokesman, the camp drew an overwhelming response from the locals. Cattle, including sheep, goats and milk yielding cattle, were treated by doctors from the Army and the civil department. A total of 2,500 head of cattle were treated.
