Ex-IAF officer shoots himself, in critical condition
Wife says son’s suicide left him deeply disturbed

Dhanna Singh, a retired Indian Air Force squadron leader in his mid-sixties, reportedly shot himself at his Sector 34 home here early this morning. He was rushed to the Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, in a critical condition. He was later referred to the PGI where he is struggling for his life.

Spurious surgical items seized from 2 chemists
Materials worth lakhs of rupees recovered
Chandigarh, November 10
The Chandigarh police seized duplicate surgical materials worth lakhs of rupees from two chemists shops, Kumar Brothers in Sector 11 and Jindal Associates in Sector 24 here today. The cops recovered prolene mesh, surgi cells and suture, the equipment used in stitching up wounds after surgery, in huge quantities from both shops.

Canal water supply scheme for Mani Majra opens
Chandigarh, November 10
Municipal Corporation Mayor Kamlesh inaugurated the canal water supply scheme at water works, Modern Housing Complex, Mani Majra, here today. Addressing a gathering, the Mayor said with this scheme, residents of Manimajra would receive 12-hour uninterrupted water supply.

With four more persons, including two students from DAV Public School, Sector 8, and a nurse from GMCH-32 tested positive for H1N1 virus in the city, the total number of confirmed swine flu cases in the city has gone up to 65.

24 PEC students examined
Chandigarh, November 10
Following confirmation of a swine flu in PEC, a student currently in Delhi, nearly 24 students of PEC University of Engineering and Technology were sent for medical examination to GMSH-16 today. For further examination, doctors detained two students out of them.

Sec 49 CHB flat allottees rue lack of amenities

The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has again lived up to its reputation of giving a raw deal to allottees. Close on the heels of delaying possession of 464 flats in the self-financing scheme in Sector 49 here, the CHB has reportedly handed over the dwelling units with certain "construction deficiencies" and without adequate civic amenities to the allottees.

Skydiving marks golden jubilee celebrations

As part of the golden jubilee celebrations of 48 Squadron, a free fall skydiving display and formation flying by AN-32 aircraft were organised at the Chandigarh Air Force Station. Games and fun events were also organised for women and children.

Kidnapping finger at father-in-law

Rajinder Satlani, a resident of Uttarakhand, accused his father-in-law and others for kidnapping his wife from a guesthouse in Burail village here this morning. Satlani, in his mid-twenties, told the police that his father-in-law had called him for a compromise as the marriage was solemnised against his wishes, but left with his wife without informing him.

180 cartons of spurious ghee seized

The police seized 180 cartons of spurious ghee from Darua village which was brought from Delhi by a Manimajra resident. The SHO of the industrial area police station said acting on a tip-off, a police team went to Goodwin Chamba Mandi Transport in Darua village, which had transported the ghee, bought by Manimajra resident Mukesh Kumar.

2 held in theft case

Two persons were arrested for allegedly committing thefts in different parts of the city. In his complaint, Ankush Negi of Sector 23 alleged that Sunny Kumar of Sector 24 was caught red-handed while stealing his mobile phone from his residence yesterday.

Suicide bid by jilted lover

A jilted lover in his mid-thirties allegedly attempted to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Sector 41 here last evening. The police said the victim, Munish Kumar Aggarwal of Phase I, Mohali, was in love with a married woman from Baterla village.
