One dead, four hurt in accident
Rajpura, November 10 Their car collided with a PRTC bus near Liberty Chowk in Rajpura city. While one of the members was declared dead in the Civil Hospital, here, others were battling for life in the PGI, Chandigarh. As per information, Jaswinder Kumar, his wife Mamta, daughter Monica and son (whose name could not be confirmed) were returning from Patiala and the son
was driving car. As they were entering Rajpura the driver of the car tried to overtake a vehicle and collided head on with a PRTC bus, which was on its way from Vrindavan to Patiala. Some of the passengers in the bus also received injuries in the accident as the bus driver applied sudden brakes. Rajpura Sadar SHO Bikramjeet Singh Brar said all four family members received critical injuries as the bus and the car were at a high speed. The entire front portion of car got badly damaged in the accident and bleeding family members were taken out of the car after many efforts. He said some of the relatives had been following the family in separate cars and were informed about the accident. They are too shocked to reveal anything about their identifications at this moment. “So far we have noted down the names and address of the injured only and efforts are made to provide medical facilities to the injured,” he said adding that a case in this connection will also be registered tomorrow. |

Woman killed in accident
Dera Bassi, November 10 The police stated that the incident took place when Veena was moving towards Mubarikpur from Chandigarh with her husband Gulshan on a motorcycle where they collided with stray cattle. They fell on the road and got seriously injured. The passers-by immediately rushed them to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where Veena was declared brought dead and Gulshan was being
treated upon. The investigating officer stated that the body of the deceased would be handed over to the family after conducting postmortem tomorrow. However, no case was registered till the filing of this report. |

BSNL landline phones out of order for 2 weeks
Kalka, November 10 They alleged that since past more than two weeks the landline phones of the area had been lying dysfunctional, causing inconvenience to them. Vijay Bansal, MLA contestant of the BSP from Kalka, and a resident of Pinjore, alleged that his phone number: 230477 was lying out of order since more than two weeks, but despite repeated complaints the problem had not been resolved. He said hundreds of phones in Pinjore, along with the NH 21-A (Pinjore-Nalagarh) highway, were lying suspended since couple of days. Notably, the landline services of the BSNL in various area of Kalka remained badly disrupted for more than two days last week due to the breakage of main cable in ‘anaj mandi’, Kalka. Since then most of the telephones in Kalka have still not become properly functional. Official sources of the BSNL, when contacted,
revealed that the work of maintenance of main cable was being carried out and the services of landlines would
be regulated soon. Similarly, the landline phone services in Pinjore had been disrupted due to burning of main cable, which would be restored after the completion of the maintenance work, added sources. |

Congress men protest distress sale of paddy
Bassi Pathana, November 10 Addressing the dharna, Harbans Lal said the SAD (B)-BJP had miserably failed to carry out the procurement of paddy process smoothly. He said this variety of Basmati, which was sold at the rate of Rs 3,500 per quintal earlier, is now being sold at the rate of Rs 1,700. Moreover, he said, the procurement staff was indulging in corrupt practice and harassing farmers. Besides, the lifting process of procured paddy was very slow and there was no space for new arrival. He asserted that during the Congress rule the process of procurement of paddy was completed within hours and the farmers did not have to wait in mandis. He urged the government and higher officials to intervene to save the commission agents and farmers from unnecessary harassment. |

Dismissed cop held with 25-kg poppy husk
Kharar, November 10 The CIA staff cops arrested him near Fatehullapur village. As per the police, he was dismissed in 2006 for being active in smuggling drugs and earlier too had been booked under the NDPS Act. Few months ago he was arrested with 450 gm of opium and was lodged in jail. He had come out on parole. The police has booked him under various sections of the NDPS Act. |
Kidnapping finger at father-in-law
Chandigarh, November 10 Satlani, in his mid-twenties, told the police that his father-in-law had called him for a compromise as the marriage was solemnised against his wishes, but left with his wife without informing him. The SHO of the Sector 34 police station said Satlani told the police that he was working in Rewari where he came in contact with Sangeeta, daughter of Ranbir Yadav. He was working in a factory there and both had affair. Yadav was against their marriage and after Satlani failed to convince him, he married Sangeeta on July 9, this year. After the marriage, he shifted to Roorkee
with his wife and began living there. After the marriage, Ranbir Yadav lodged a complaint against Satlani at a local police station in Rewari on which a case of kidnapping was registered against him. Satlani alleged in his statement to the police that Yadav called him up, saying he had agreed to their marriage and would take back the case of kidnapping registered against him. Yadav called him to Chandigarh, saying they would go to the Punjab and Haryana High Court to quash the case. Both parties reached the city along with their advocates and stayed in a guesthouse in Burail village. This morning, Satlani alleged that Yadav, along with his son and others, took away his wife and informed the police about the incident. The SHO of the Sector 34 police station said a case of kidnapping had been registered against Yadav, his son and others under Section 365 of the Indian Penal Code. Satlani claimed that his wife was 19-year-old while her parents held that she was a minor. |

180 cartons of spurious ghee seized
Chandigarh, November 10 The SHO of the industrial area police station said acting on a tip-off, a police team went to Goodwin Chamba Mandi Transport in Darua village, which had transported the ghee, bought by Manimajra resident Mukesh Kumar. As the cartons were carrying trademark of “Verka”, the police called officials from Milkfed to inspect it, who said the ghee was spurious and fake trademark was used on it. V.K Midha, general manager of Milkfed, lodged a complaint with the police after inspecting the material and a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy under provisions of the IPC and Sections 63 of the Copyright Act had been registered against Mukesh Kumar and others, said the police. The SHO said they found that Mukesh had taken 26 cartons of ghee earlier from the company and bring a big vehicle to carry 180 cartons. Meanwhile, the police came to know about the matter and seized the ghee. The police also contacted the transport company in Delhi, which said Mukesh had made full payment of the consignment and they had no information about him. He was also not found at his residence and raids were being conducted to nab him. |

2 held in theft case
Chandigarh, November 10 In another incident, Parvesh Kumar of Sector 27-D filed a complaint with the police alleging that Mohammad Ikram of Muzaffarnagar had stolen his Hero Honda motorcycle (PB 18 M 2751) yesterday. The police arrested the accused later from the road dividing Sectors 27 and 30. Two separate cases have been registered in this regard.
Theft
In his complaint, SPS Garcha of Sector 10 alleged that someone had stolen his bag containing four ATM cards, two registration certificates and other documents from the Sector 8 market yesterday. A case of theft has been registered.
Bike stolen

Suicide bid by jilted lover
Chandigarh, November 10 The police said the victim, Munish Kumar Aggarwal of Phase I, Mohali, was in love with a married woman from Baterla village. He wanted to stay with the woman, but the latter refused to part with her husband. The woman’s husband and brother convinced her not to go with Aggarwal, to which she agreed. However, Aggarwal refused to budge and threatened to kill himself. When she again refused to leave her husband, Aggarwal consumed poison, said the Sector 34 SHO. He was admitted to the Government Multi Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, where he is still undergoing treatment. The police has registered a case of attempt to suicide against him. |

Chandigarh, November 10 The Danapur team launched the offensive right from the start and got a penalty stroke in the fourth minute. Skipper Rohit Manhas capitulated on the opportunity to help his team take a 1-0 lead. However, the Delhi team equalised the score with Mohit scoring a field goal in the ninth minute. Thereafter, the Danapur team continued to hold the ball in the Delhi team’s territory and scored their second goal in 29th minute through GA Sunil. Danapur got two penalty corners in the 31st and 32nd minutes of the game, which were successfully converted by Rohit. In the second half, Kamal Lakra of Danapur scored two field goals in the 47th and 49th minutes. In the 54th minute, Noel Dodrai converted a penalty corner to give 7-1 lead to his team. 10 city golfers for PGTI meet
Chandigarh, November 10 The city golfers will rub shoulders with some of India’s top professionals, including Order of Merit leader Anirban Lahiri, Mukesh Kumar, Shamim Khan, Vijay Kumar, Rahul Ganapathy and Arjun Singh. Missing from the entry list is Asian Tour star Gaganjeet Bhullar of Kapurthala. The other city golfers who will take part in the four-day event are Ranjit Singh, big-hitter Gurbaaz PS Mann, Randhir Singh Ghotra, Ajeetesh Sandhu, Sujjan Singh, Dayal Singh, KPS Sekhon and Rajiv Kumar. Founded in 1917, The Willingdon Sports Club is home to a small but picturesque course. The Willingdon, though an extremely short course, is a pleasant golfing experience. It has narrow fairways and large trees. The greens are surrounded by bunkers. There are two par-5s on the course and as many as 10 par-3s. Chandigarh, November 10 In a nail-biting match, the teams were locked 27-27 with just one minute left in the game. Naina stole the show by scoring 11 points, tilting the balance in the favour of St Kabir as she sunk two quick baskets to enable her school retain the trophy.
