Colleges demand scrapping of ‘biased’ results Kusum Arora Tribune News Service Jalandhar, November 6 Students demanded scrapping of results of theatre, bhajan and dance items, claiming that the judgments delivered were partial. The issue was raked up after the results were declared in the evening. Irked at the judgment, students said the judges had manipulated the results. According to the judgment, the local Apeejay College of Fine Arts bagged the first position, while Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya stood second. The third position was achieved by Kanya Maha Vidyalaya. “We will bring the matter to the notice of the Director, Youth Welfare, and the Vice-Chancellor,” said a lecturer requesting anonymity. Principal of KMV Dr Atima Sharma said the youth festivals were held to develop the overall personality and character of students. “As an educationist, I feel that events like youth festivals should be conducted impartially in the interest of the students,” she added. Students said Apeejay College had inducted three outsiders into the one-act play. “The three students were not even on the regular rolls of the college. How can hired artistes compete with regular students from colleges? This is sheer injustice and it should be probed,” said a student of KMV College. Even the Principal of Lyallpur Khalsa College said such unfair practices in youth festivals would lead to unrest among students and led to poor presentations. When contacted Dean, GND University Regional Campus, Tejinder Kaur, said, “I cannot comment on this issue. However, the creative dance performance by the Belgian girl from KMV definitely deserved a good position. However, we will raise this issue with the Director, Youth Welfare, soon.” |

Consumer robbed of land, forum orders HIT to pay
up Hoshiarpur, November 6 The forum further burdened the HIT with Rs 1,000 as litigation expenses. Bittu filed a complaint against the HIT on the ground that the shop purchased by him - measuring 35.86 sq yds for Rs 7,17,500 - from the latter was actually 32.27 sq yds, which left a difference of 3.59 sq yds. The authorities of the HIT took a plea that the shops were checked and
seen by the bidders, including Bittu, at the time of taking possession and at that time, the measurement of
the area was also made before delivering the possession. The forum, headed by President P.D. Goel, held that the promised area of the shop was 35.86 sq yds and Bittu was given possession of an area of 32.27 sq yds. Hence, it was ruled that as such, the HIT rendered deficient services. |

PIMS still a distant dream Jalandhar, November 6 Sources said nearly seven private firms, including L&T, Blue Star, Johnsons Lifts and firms to install equipment for supply of medical gases and a sewerage treatment plant, were involved in the overall construction of the institute’s building. Though part of work assigned to L&T is complete, information regarding which was conveyed to the Punjab Health Systems Corporation and the PIMS authority in mid-October, works allocated to other firms may take at least three weeks to complete. A meeting of the governing body, is scheduled for November 25 and transfer of control of building, from L&T to the PIMS authority and eventually to the PIMS Charitable Society will be possible only after that meeting. The three-month agreement between the PIMS authorities and the PIMS Charitable Society will expire on November 27. Delay in transfer has already caused losses to L&T. “We need to seal all entry points of the building as construction is almost complete. A number of theft incidents have taken place in the past. We are urging the authorities to take charge of the building as soon as possible,” said an employee of L&T. Rakhra said, “We are least interested to take control of an incomplete building. We hope that the institute will be ready to provide OPD services by the end of November.” |
