Even you don’t have to listen to his dialogues; just a glance of his through the big or small screen can tickle your funny bone. He is a born comedian, so he feels, who has established himself as a brand after a hard fought struggle.

Meet Johnny Lever, the person who got his inspiration seeing the greatest comedians ever in the Hindi film industry, Kishore Kumar and Mehmood.

In the holy city on a promotional tour of his acting institute --- Johnny Lever Ryan Film Academy --- the actor says comedy can’t be learnt or taught, a person is born comedian.

Lever says Kishore Kumar and Mahmood not only helped him in honing his skills but also lend a hand in his career.

Now the comedian desires to venture out in filmmaking and wants to make a film with strong message that can shake the conscience of common man and encourage them to do something for the society.

Citing an example, he says, “Kunwara Baap, made by Mahmood, was a masterpiece, which motivated the country and its men to fight against polio.”

Commenting on realty shows being telecast on various television channels, he feels though such shows provide a platform to a person for showcasing his talent and get instant success, it is very difficult to maintain this success. “Sometimes, such persons disappears when fail to sustain in the cutthroat competitive world.”

Lever says it was not easy for him to reach this level and like others too he had to pass through the hard realities of life and struggle. “My past memories are my treasure and I would not forget them as it motivates me to do something for the society and people aspiring for Bollywood,” the actor adds. Taking about his academy, he says the main objective of the academy to train the young children in various arts of the film industry including acting and dancing.

Illegal trade of crackers thrives with impunity

Amritsar, October 9
With Divali round the corner, people of all age groups, especially children, are keen to enjoy its every moment by bursting crackers. Certainly, fireworks and crackers have become the cynosure of the festival and people love to see rainbow of colours emanating from fireworks and thunderous sounds of crackers.

The district administration has already issued guidelines for traders of crackers to exercise precautions so that no untoward mishap takes place. However, Annagarh, infamous for illegal firecracker units, is still keeping the civil and police administration on toes.

A spacious market in the Jahajgarh area on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road has been earmarked for selling crackers and other fireworks. The market has got enough open space. Trader Surinder Singh said the rates of crackers had increased by 20 per cent this year.

Crackers from Re 1 a piece to Rs 2,100 for 252 shots are available.

Deputy Commissioner Kahn Singh Pannu has banned the bursting of fireworks and crackers in the district from 10 pm to 6 am. He said within the 100-metre area around silence zones like hospitals, educational institutes, courts and religious sites the bursting of crackers has been prohibited.

The administration has issued a list of earmarked places where crackers could be stored and sold. These include District Shopping Centre’s parking lot, Sultanwind Road, open space on Batala Road, near Gurdwara Baba Jiwan Singh in Guru Ki Wadali and Sakatari Bagh. However, the shops and stalls of crackers could only be put up after taking due permission from the Municipal Corporation and the Improvement Trust. The orders would remain in force till November 3.

Infamous for bootlegging and drug addiction, Annagarh is also known as mini Sivakasi of the district due to a large number of illegal firework and cracker units being run with impunity. The number of these units swell further as many small-scale units come up close to Divali. Since these units are run illegally they hardly follow any preventive guidelines.

A blast had hit an illegal firecracker unit being run by an SPO in the beginning of the year. Two teenagers were killed.

Untrained children and women are involved in the manufacture of crackers in these units. The administration has failed to come out with a plan to save the young lives being consumed by illegal manufacturers using fissile material.

A resident of the area on the condition of anonymity said the illegal business was thriving under the patronage of politicians who had a clout in the civil and police administration in running the cracker units.
