Condolence meeting
:Aryans Business School (ABS) held a condolence meeting to mourn the demise of their chief mentor professor SP Singh on the campus.Students, members of staff and management paid homage and floral tributes to the late professor. A two-minute silence was observed by students and faculty members. Professor SP Singh passed away on Thursday after a brief illness. He was former dean and chairman of University Business School.

Rampura Phul girl shines
: Khushi Garg of Sharp Brain Centre, Rampura Phul, came second in the junior category of the National Abacus Tournament organised in Mohali by the Challengers Abacus Education on Sunday. Education Minister of Himachal Pradesh ID Dhiman was the chief guest on the occasion. Khushi Garg was awarded a trophy and certificate. Sunita Goyal of Sharp Brain centre announced a special award for her.

Illicit liquor recovered: A local resident Manjeet Singh was nabbed with 50 cases of country-made liquor near Ghode Wala chowk on Monday night. The excise department awarded him a penalty of Rs 10,000. He was released on bail later.

PRTC union: Inspector Ganda Singh Dhaliwal has been chosen the president of the PRTC Employees’ Union (INTUC) for the third consecutive year.


Postal staff get training: Soft skills training to the employees of the Post Office, Bathinda under the Project Arrow phase-III began here on behalf of the Post Master General, Punjab Circle by the North India Technical Consultancy Organisation Ltd (NITCO). Nearly 50 employees of Bathinda division attended the first day of the session. The second day of the session would be held on October 11.

Licences for pvt security agencies
: The Punjab police on Monday issued licenses to 61 private security agencies that fulfilled the broad parameters of the stipulated Act. According to an official spokesman, the rules had been framed under the Punjab Security Agencies Rules, 2007, under which every private security agency would have to obtain licenses from the government. “The ADGP/Administration is the controlling authority for the purpose of implementation of the Act,” he said.

Golden jubilee celebrations
: The Naveen Kala Mandir, a local socio-religious organisation, organised a function ‘Ram ka raj tilak’ on its golden jubilee here on Saturday. A souvenir was also released by Rakesh Goel (IRS) Additional Income Tax Commissioner of Ludhiana on the occasion. Punjabi comedian Surendra Farishta enthralled the audience with his items. Local MLA Joginder Pal Jain, former MLA Vijay Sathi, president of the local body Barjinder Singh Brar and social activist Ajay Sood were present among others.

: Members and president of the Patarkar Association, Rajpura, were elected here yesterday.Iqbal Singh was elected as president of association, Sudesh Taneja was elected as its cashier, Sukhdev Singh as general secretary, Chander Kishore Madaan and Amarjeet Singh Pannu as senior vice-presidents, Atam Parkash as secretary and Ashok Premi, KK Puri, Prince Taneja and Neelam Madaan were elected as executive members.

Inquiry initiated
: Officials of the education department has initiated an inquiry into the much-talked about sports’ kit supply under the centrally sponsored scheme called backward area sub-plan. The inquiry report, on its completion, would be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the officials stated. An FIR would be lodged with the police only after the directions of the DC.

Cleanliness drive
: Volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) took part in the cleanliness activities in and around the road leading to Government Girls Middle School at Kakira, about 25 km from here, on Sunday. The drive was a part of the ‘total sanitation campaign’ in the state-level youth leadership camp organised here. As many as 144 units comprising 225 boys and girls from different parts of the state participated in the camp.

Cleanliness drive
: In a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the state unit of the Janata Dal (U) launched a cleanliness drive around its party headquarters on the Panjbakhtar road here on Saturday. The party workers also impressed upon local shopkeepers and residents to keep their surroundings clean. Party president Inder Mohinder Tar Singh demanded that a statue of Gandhiji with an inscription of his teachings should be installed at Shahidi Chowk.

Teenager found dead: Mystery shrouds death of a 15-year-old boy, who was found dead in his house in the Ban Talab area here on Monday. The police said Shabir Ahmed, a native of Changa village in Thathri tehsil of Doda, who had been putting up with his parents in Poonch Colony in Ban Talab, was found dead this morning in his house. However, the police refused to divulge details on the grounds that it had been awaiting the post-mortem report. “Autopsy was conducted and we are now awaiting the report. However, inquest proceedings have been initiated,” said a police officer.

LeT commander, wife nabbed
: A Lashkar-e-Toiba commander was arrested with his wife, who was also active in militant activities, from Batamaloo in Srinagar on Monday. The police said Ashiq Hussain, alias Umair, district commander for Doda district, was apprehended today. His three other associates were also nabbed. They were in Batamaloo making plans for terror activities when the police, on their trails for some time, got their information and nabbed them.
