Amritsar
2 flights cancelled :
One Sharjah- bound and one domestic Delhi-Amritsar flight of Air India were cancelled owing to strike by a section of pilots. The immigration authorities detained passenger Parvinder Singh, resident of Chack Bhaman village who had landed at the airport today morning via Toronto-Amritsar flight. He had boarded the flight from London where he was allegedly residing for 10 years. His passport was found to be fake. More than 80 passengers were stranded when New-Delhi-Sharjah flight was cancelled. 

HOSHIARPUR
Training in Oz:
The WHO will train 26 Indian doctors, including three from Punjab, in drug de-addiction from October 12 to October 26 in Australia. President, Punjab Civil Medical Services Association, Dr Hardeep Singh said on Monday the doctors had been granted fellowship on recommendations of their respective state government and the Union of India. They had been accepted by the New Southwales Institute of Psychiatry, Australia. 

One held with obscene CDs: On the complaint of Gurdarshan Singh Bhalla of Shanti Bihar, Maksudhan, Jalandhar, the Hariana police arrested Sukhjit Singh of Bhikhowal and recovered 70 duplicate and obscene CDs from him last evening. A case under sections 420 and 292 of the IPC and sections 51, 52 A, 63, 64. 66 and 68 of the Copy Right Act against him has been registered. 

5 booked: The police has booked Des Raj, his brothers Gurmail, Ram Lal and Harmesh Lal, and Balbir Singh of Torowal under sections 363, 366 and 120 B of the IPC on the complaint of Tarsem Lal of Rattanpur, who alleged Des Raj with the help of other accused married  his teenaged daughter Rina Devi.

Team constituted:
A joint team of the Food and Civil Supplies Department and the police was constituted on Monday to raid the house of the sister of the prime accused in the sugar hoarding scam at Hisar. The team was constituted following the disclosure by the accused, Bharat Bhushan of Khoobi Ram Johri Mal firm, Moga, that important documents pertaining to the scam were lying at his sister’s house in Hisar and his house in Moga.

Founder’s Day:
Life Line Blood centre celebrated its second founder’s day and blood donation day here on Monday. As many as 50 regular repeat donors, emergency donors, couple donors and family voluntary blood donors, along with 35 religious, social and educational organisations working in the field of voluntary blood donation were honoured by Patiala Municipal Commissioner MS Narang. Director of Life Line Blood Centre Dr Kulbir Kaur presented the annual.

Saplings planted
: The local Lions Club (Royal’s) celebrated Vanmahotsva by planting saplings of Arjun and Brahmi Dek trees at the PSEB’s complaint centre and on the premises of Gurdwara Niyaeen Sahib here on Sunday. President of the club SN Verma said the club planted 35 saplings at the PSEB’s complaint centre and about 200 saplings on the premises of the gurdwara.

Fake currency seized:
The Sarhali police has recovered fake Indian currency worth Rs 40,000 from the possession of Roshan Singh of Dhotian village at a naka put up in the area late last evening. The police said a case under sections 489-A, 489-Bsd and 489-C, IPC, has been registered against the accused.

Ambala
NGO to teach science:
The Haryana government in collaboration with the Ambala Scientific Instruments Manufacturers Association (ASIMA) is looking forward to establish an NGO that will aim at imparting knowledge related to basic science to students. Sameer Pal Sarro, Deputy Commissioner, Ambala, announced this during an interactive session at Kingfisher Tourist Complex, Ambala, yesterday.

Awareness campaign: On the occasion of World Heart Day, the Alchemist Hospital today organised an awareness campaign for employees of The Tribune at their office complex. Dr SK Mathur, an endocrinologist, said people suffering from diabetes were more vulnerable to coronary artery diseases. Dr Karun Behal, cardiologist, said lifestyle modification, regular exercises, healthy diet and timely treatment could prevent various heart ailments.

JAMMU
Hindi play staged: The Natrang Theatre staged Mani Madhukar’s Hindi play “Chote Bade” on Sunday. Directed by Balwant Thakur, the play depicted the story of two unemployed dejected youths, their aspirations, pain and frustrations. It tried to expose the system in which there was no alternative left with the youth to channelise their creative abilities in an environment where mediocrity was promoted at the cost of excellence. Mohammad Yaseen played the role of Chote, while Hemant Bhola acted as Bade. 

Veterinary camps: A team from the faculty of veterinary sciences, RS Pura, organised a series of animal health camps at Chin Choda, Jalga, Paneja and Bheja villages of Bhaderwah tehsil and Jatti village of Assar block under the project “Enhancement of livelihood security through sustainable farming systems”. The project was funded by the ICAR through National Agriculture Innovation Project (NAIP). More than 600 animals were examined during these camps. The team included Dr Ajay Gupta, Dr Sudhir Kumar and Dr Rajiv Singh. 

RAJOURI
Man murdered over land dispute: Salaam Din (70) was allegedly murdered by Shamas Din with an axe in the Batta Durian area of Mendhar in Poonch on Sunday. A land dispute was said to be the reason behind the murder. Salaam Din was working in his fields when Shamas Din reached the spot. There was an altercation between them and then Shamas hit Salaam with an axe, killing him on the spot. After the incident, the accused ran away from the spot.
