Bathinda
Sajni shop: The Sajni shop venture was on Saturday dedicated by Lt. General DS Chauhan, AVSM, General Officer Commanding, Chetak Corps. Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Chauhan informed that this venture is a part of series of efforts undertaken to uplift the living standards in the Bathinda Military Station.

Cricket match: The cricket matches of the Mahatma Hansraj Sports Tournament 2009 hosted by RB DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Bathinda, were declared open by Dr Arun Jee, principal, DPS, Bathinda. GC Sharma, principal, DAV Malout, Shama Bhullar, principal DAV Bathinda, Kuldeep Kalsi, senior chemist, GNDTP, graced the occasion. DAV Bhikiwind, Tarn Taran, played and won the maiden match of the tournament against JNJ DAV Gidderbaha. 

Life of Rama on projector: Shri Ram Kala Kendra Committee, Bathinda, is organising the depiction of the life and times of Lord Rama on projector from Saturday till October 1 in Thermal Colony. The event was inaugurated by Chief Engineer Kamaljeet Singh. The committee would also organise the Dussehra festival on September 28.

Ram Lila & Dussehra fest: Shri Ram Charitra Kala Kendra, Bathinda, is organising Ram Lila from September 20-30 at the SSD Senior Secondary School, Bathinda, from 8.30 pm to 12 midnight. The Ram Lila is being directed by Swami Sharma, Shrawan Kumar and Dharmendra Bansal. Meanwhile, Shri Sanatan Dharm Mahabir Dal, Bathinda, is also organising Dussehra festival celebrations on September 28 from 3 pm to 6 pm on the ground of the MSD Senior Secondary Public School.

NTSE cleared: Jewan Dhillon, a student of Sacred Heart Convent School, Malout, has qualified in the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE). Principal Father Sunny Joseph and teachers have all lauded her feat for making the institute proud.

FEROZEPUR
2 kg of heroin seized
: The Border Security Force on Friday seized 2 kg of heroin and opium besides three Pakistani SIM cards, concealed in a utensil in paddy field of Kuldeep Singh of Sakatra village, from the Noorwala area along the Indo-Pakistan border. The officials said Kuldeep had not come to work in fields for a few days, adding a case against Kuldeep and his two sons, Gurvinder Singh and Dharminder Singh would be registered.

Bir Devinder appeals for Mehboob
: Senior Akali leader Bir Devinder Singh has sent an SOS to Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to send a senior neurologist here from the PGI, Chandigarh, to examine noted Sikh scholar Harinder Singh Mehboob. He is under treatment at a private hospital here. Bir Devinder informed Azad that Mehboob has reportedly developed some problem pertaining to neurology. Family members of Mehboob requested that Dr Parveen Solaunke, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, PGI, may kindly be deputed to examine Mehboob.

Library inaugurated
: Justice MM Kumar of Punjab and Haryana High Court, on Saturday inaugurated Central Sukham Memorial Library on the premises of the Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology here. Sangrur Deputy Commissioner VK Ohri and Chairman of the Bhai Gurdas Group of Institutions Hakam Singh Jawandha were also present.

GURGAON
Deposit firearms
: DM: District Magistrate Anurag Aggarwal on Saturday issued directions to all licence holders to deposit firearms in their respective police stations by September 22. These orders have been issued under Section 144 of the CrPC. The orders have been issued on account of the Haryana Assembly elections to be held on October 13. The orders said the SHOs concerned shall be duty bound to ensure safe custody of all firearms so deposited till the due date. The orders shall not be applicable to the police and other public servants on duty, including security personnel of banks and petrol pumps.

KURUKSHETRA
Education programme
: The branch of Syndicate Bank situated on the premises of Greenfield Public School, Kurukshetra, organised a rural extension education programme in Bir Mathana village, 7km from here, on Saturday. Under the programme, chief guest SC Bagga, former deputy director, animal husbandry, Kurukshetra, delivered a lecture on agriculture and allied activities while branch manager SK Arora explained various credit facilities of the bank.

2 booked for thrashing cop
: The police today booked the working president of the Hindu Jagran Manch and a local leader who had beaten up a police post in charge in the police station on Thursday. Raju Bhandri, working state president of the Hindu Jagran Manch and Prem Saini were booked today. However, the police said no arrest had been made as per now and it was likely to arrest the accused tomorrow.
