The expulsion of two students of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Sector 29, has led the KV authorities to immediately transfer the principal, Samarjeet Kaur, to Bhatinda. She joined the new station yesterday itself.

In what points towards the sloppy investigation by the Mohali police who was apparently shielding its own man, a medical report of the Chemical Examiner, Punjab, has revealed that the head constable, who had mowed down two children while recklessly driving a car, was heavily drunk at the time of the accident.
Victims’ parents seek strict action

“An inebriated cop driving his car on the busy Mohali roads is shocking. Strict action should be taken against him to discourage incidents of public servants behaving irresponsibly and endangering lives on the roads,” these were the remarks of Dalbir Singh, a father who lost his two daughters, Simarpreet and Ishpreet, in a road accident on December 6 last year.
CHB Rehab Project
192 needy families get new home
Chandigarh, September 19
The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) handed over keys to 192 dwelling units in Sector 38 (West) to families living in prefabricated shelters here today.
Addressing a gathering, Gen SF Rodrigues, Governor Punjab and UT Administrator, said the ambitious project, costing Rs 1,200 crore and partly funded by the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission
(JNNURM), was being implemented by the CHB with an aim to make the city “slum-free”.

Just another ‘slum’

“It seems like we have been shifted from one slum to another,” feels Manjesha, living with her family of seven members in one-room flats allotted in Sector 38 (West), after being relocated from Bapu Dham just a month ago.

Owing to increased passenger traffic for third day in a row, three more coaches were added to the Chandigarh-Lucknow Sadbhavna Express.
18,500 cases disposed of at lok adalat

At least 18,500 cases in various categories were disposed of during the quarterly lok adalat held at the district courts today.
This was part of the effort to dispose of as many cases under “Samadhan 2009” initiated by the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Bimla Gupta (77), mother of Justice Hemant Gupta and wife of former Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court JV Gupta, today breathed her last after brief illness. She is survived by two daughters and a son.
Her elder son-in-law ML Tayal is principal secretary to Haryana Chief Minister.
