Govt hospitals to hike fees
Roorkee, September 18 A meeting of all chief medical officers and others was called by the authorities at the Directorate of Health Services in Dehradun on August 29 to get their views on the issue. Dr RP Badoni, CMS, Government Civil Hospital, Roorkee, said a hike of 10 per cent or 25 per cent in the fees of various medical tests and other treatment processes at health centres was on the cards. “At the meeting, the matter was discussed and most of the CMOs and CMSes were of the view that the hike is needed for providing better facilities and infrastructure as well as maintenance of the health institutes,” said Dr Badoni. It has been reported that there will be no hike in the hospital card fee, which is Rs 5 at present. Notably, there has been no changes in the fees at the government health care centres since 2000 whereas there is reportedly a provision of 10 per cent hike annually. Though the authorities maintained that the hike would be nominal, the proposal does not seem going well with the people, especially the poor strata. “The hike would hit the poor hard. With the rates of grocery touching the roof, poor people are find it difficult to make the both ends meet. Now the hike in treatment expenses in government hospitals would be another blow on us,” said Arshad Khan, a rickshaw puller. |

Minister hints at extending beach permits for rafting
Dehradun, September 18 Uttarakhand Forest Minister Bisan Singh Chufal stated this at Uttarakhand Forest Officers Conference held in Dehradun today. Chufal said he understood the concerns of the agitating rafting companies and those were under sympathetic consideration of the government. He hinted at extending the permit for a period of five years from the present one-year period. Referring to the auction of beaches, Chufal said there was no question of hurting the interest of the locals under any circumstances. “Even in the auction, it will be ensured that locals get much-needed priority,” Chufal pointed out. The minister’s assurance comes at a time when the rafting companies are protesting Forest Department’s policy on providing one-year permit and also auction of beaches. The agitating companies are keeping off from rafting operations this year in protest. Chufal also took the opportunity to announce that his ministry was contemplating preparing a seed policy for Uttarakhand. He said the need for a seed policy was being felt for quite some time. On plantations undertaken by the Forest Department every year, the minster categorically said it had been decided to ensure a videography of the saplings for a period of three years starting from the day they were planted. “This will enhance the credibility of the monsoon tree-plantation drive undertaken by the Forest Department”, he observed. Uttarakhand Principal Chief Conservator of Forests RBS Rawat said the conference being attended by all forest officers of Uttarakhand would be deliberating on all forestry and linked issues pertaining to the state. Chief Wildlife Warden Srikant Chandola and KL Arya from the Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation were among prominent speakers at the conference. |
