Seminar on prison reforms: The heads and secretaries of prison departments from across the country, high court judges, senior police functionaries and academicians are converging for a two-day national seminar on “New dimensions of prison reforms” starting September 18. It will be organised by the Institute of Correctional Administration, in collaboration with PU’s Department of Laws on the varsity campus.

Camp inaugurated: All revenue officers in the state are expected to perform onerous and responsible duties. They must also remain vigilant to ensure that law and rules are not ignored while performing their duties. This was stated by director of the HP State Judicial Academy SL Sharma while inaugurating the six-day state-level Revenue Officers Professional Training camp at the District Judicial Complex Conference Hall here on Monday. He said the camp was being organised to increase efficiency, competency and speed of officials so that even under trying circumstances they hold their responsibilities with confidence. Anti-smoking drive: Superintendent of Police Kuldip Sharma said here on Tuesday that under a campaign launched against smoking at public places the police had challaned 15 persons. Each was fined Rs 200. He said since head constables were also given the power to challan smokers under the HP Anti-Smoking Act, the campaign gained momentum. CHAMBA
Meeting held: Vidhan Sabha Speaker Tulsi Ram has impressed upon district officers to attend important meetings with regard to the ongoing government programmes and plans after doing their homework clearly so that they are aware of the ground realities of the concerned schemes. He stated this while speaking at the first quarterly meeting of the Scheduled Caste sub-plan here on Tuesday.

Nano hits Jammu roads: The much-awaited Nano on Monday hits Jammu roads with Bram Dutt Sharma becoming the first owner of the world’s cheapest car in the city. Tata Motors commenced the delivery of the car in different towns and cities in July. Plantation drive launched: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched a special drive for plantation of sustainable trees and plants throughout the Jammu region. During the past one month more than 3,000 plants and trees of sheesham, neem, chinar, chir pine, ashoka, areca palm, jatropha, walnuts, apple, willow, teak, gulmohar, etc have been planted in the police complexes of all 10 districts of the Jammu region. Chairperson of the J&K Police Officers Wives Welfare Association Indu Kaul Khoda accompanied by other members visited the district police lines and planted saplings of pine, gulmohar and teak trees. Vehicle lifter held: The Jammu police has busted a notorious gang of vehicle lifters by arresting one person, an official press note issued here said. The police claimed that with the arrest of Manjit Kumar of Kalyana village in RS Pura, it had worked out at least nine cases of vehicle thefts in Jammu district. The value of stolen vehicles has been worked at around Rs 3

Northern Command celebrates Hindi Diwas: The headquarters of the Northern Command celebrated Hindi Diwas on Monday. On this occasion, competitions such as Hindi essay, noting and drafting, Hindi typing through computer and recitation were conducted. Brig BS Das, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to the winners. Chief Engineer Northern Command won the ‘Rajbhasha Trophy’. The chief guest spoke on the importance of the official language in day-to-day work through official correspondence in the offices of the Northern Command. Lt Col RVS
