Aarushi Case
CBI clams up, refuses to share mobile details

New Delhi, September 15
Apart from saying that the mobile has been sent for the forensic examination and five people have been rounded up for questioning, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials remained tight-lipped about any information as regards to the recovery of slain teenager Aarushi’s mobile phone.

“Investigation is in progress. Keeping in view the interest of a fair and impartial investigation and also directions of the Supreme Court, the CBI does not propose to share any details with the media at this stage,” said CBI spokesperson Harsh Bahal.

The CBI had earlier drawn flak from the SC for revealing the investigation details to the media and in the process alerting the culprits when the investigation was initially taken up by the CBI in June last year. However, with the failure of CBI to trace the mobile phone even as it had been used since February, the CBI is once again on the back foot. When questioned about its failure to trace the phone, a CBI officer did not give a direct answer.

“We would answer all the questions when we file the chargesheet before the court. We are really not in a position to answer any queries from the media,” maintained a CBI official.

According to information, the CBI has its own mobile surveillance system which is far much advanced and sophisticated than the other such systems in the country.

“CBI has one of the most advance mobile surveillance systems in the country. If it failed to trace the mobile even as we could, it is not a good sign,” said a senior Delhi police official requesting anonymity. The mobile was recovered on Sunday from a Khurja (Bulandshahr) resident, 16 months after Aarushi and her domestic help Hemraj were found brutally murdered in her Noida home.

The CBI had taken over the investigation in the case after 13 days of the twin murders when Noida Police seemed to lose ground. The agency carried out the probe under the leadership of Arun Kumar, joint director (CBI), but failed to make any headway in the case.

According to information, a new probe team headed by Javed Ahmed (joint director) and Nilabh Kishore as investigation officer (IO) are looking into the case now with the assistance of almost 50 officers.

Uncle held for killing 10-yr-old girl in Delhi
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 15
With the arrest of a man, the south district police has solved the murder of a 10-year-old girl whose body was found in the Neb Sarai area yesterday.

According to the police, the accused Babu Mandal, 22, is the victim Rinku’s uncle and is allegedly having an affair with her mother. He allegedly killed Rinku as she had seen him with her mother in a compromising position.

Rinku was found dead yesterday morning in the hills of Neb Sarai with multiple head injuries. She studied in class II and lived with her parents in a rented accommodation at Neb Sarai village. Her body was found 25 to 30 meters away from her home.

DCP (south) HGS Dhaliwal said on the intervening night of September 13-14, Rinku had seen Babu Mandal in a compromising position with her mother Ruma near her house. Ruma left the place and rushed back but Babu Mandal caught Rinku. He requested her not to divulge the incident to her father, to which Rinku refused. Therefore, he took her to a nearby jungle and killed her by curling her head with a stone.

“Babu Mandal bore multiple scratches on his face, neck and body. He was forensically examined to ascertain the cause and time of injuries, which appeared to nail scratches. This raised suspicion to which he could not give any justification,” said DCP Dhaliwal. After sustained interrogation, he broke down and confessed to have killed Rinku. He disclosed that he had hit her with a stone on her head.

He further revealed he that was having an affair with his sister-in-law Ruma, Rinku’s mother.

Harried parents queue up for nursery forms

New Delhi, September 15
Hundreds of parents in the Capital and NCR are struggling through nursery admissions, many for the first time.

Tuesday was the last day for sale of application forms in many schools in the NCR region though forms continue to be available in other schools. Beleaguered parents complain that schools are keeping the sale of forms open only for two to three days. It prevents them from applying in more than one school.

Confusion is rife among parents as schools do not follow any common procedure for admission. Besides, there is not much time available for the procurement and submission of forms. Some schools are conducting interviews with parents and students, others are going in for informal interaction to select students.

Aditi Sharma, a parent says, “I had applied at Banyan Tree World School in Gurgaon and also wanted to apply at a few other schools. However, due to lack of time available for the collection and submission of forms, I could only apply at Banyan Tree for my son. This is certainly going to limit his chances. For one thing schools have long lines of parents for forms and the process is time-consuming. We needed more days.”

Another parent Dimple says, “I applied at Amity International for the admission of my daughters, but time is short. I could not apply elsewhere. Most schools are giving us just two to three days. I wanted to apply at Father Agnel School in Noida but admission closed there today. Now I have to take my chance having applied at only one school.”

A number of schools have closed the sale of forms. These include Amity International Noida, DPS Faridabad, Father Agnel School Noida and Banyan Tree World School in Gurgaon.

One of the schools where admission process is yet to begin is the Shri Ram School, Aravali, Gurgaon.

The school coordinator says, “Our nursery admissions are yet to begin. Forms will be made available for three days from October 22-24. Parents can book a seat at this time and there is no online registration for booking a seat. Parents will have to collect forms at the counter and their enquiries will be addressed at that time.”

Shehnaz, another parent, says, “I am having many problems in this admission season. There are long queues of parents trying to book a seat. Many schools in Gurgaon have closed the sale of forms. I have only applied at Banyan Tree. Of course, I plan to apply at Shri Ram School once admissions open there.”
