Life term for rapist uncle

The man who raped his five-and-a-half-year-old niece has been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment, the maximum imprisonment prescribed in the law for this offence, by a local court.

“He proved to be a wolf in human clothing. We trusted him so much that we left our five-year-old daughter with him, but he raped her. We are relieved that the court has sentenced him to life,” the mother of the victim says in reaction to the sentence.

A hospital employee had reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his small shanty situated in BL Kapoor Memorial Hospital near old Sabzi Mandi here today. The incident came to light this morning. Raju Darjee (33), a class IV employee, was working in the operation theatre of the hospital.

Deadline for removal of encroachments ends

With more than 6,000 encroachments to be demolished by the municipal corporation under CWP 4886 of 2003, the officials from the civic body have now given a final warning to people by issuing a public notice in this regard.
