Land scam worth crores in GB Nagar
Greater Noida, June 2 Additional district magistrate (admn) O.P Arya said he had ordered an enquiry into the case after a group of farmers lodged a complaint in this regard at his office on Monday. According to information, 927 acres of land in Gulawli village was to be given to 153 villagers in 1989. But the land deeds were issued in the names of some influential people, while poor villagers were ignored. The then tehsildar of Bulandshahr had rejected the land deeds after conducting an enquiry. However, the deeds were later revived by some people. But the farmers of the area had refused to hand over the possession of the land to the deed holders. While the case is still pending in the Allahabad High court, the land was declared to have been transferred on February 4, 2009. However, according to law, if the land deed holder does not get possession of the land for 10 years, he forfeits the right to transfer the same, sources said. Ex-pradhan of the village Vedh Raj alleged that the persons involved in the scam were looking for opportunity to dispose off the land after getting the right to transfer it. The villagers had therefore lodged a complaint against it. ADM Arya said that SDM Saddar, Vishal Singh, has been ordered to probe the matter. |

Farmers agree to give land Rs 850 for expressway
Greater Noida, June 2 The success of the long struggle of the Noida farmers for the purpose has at last brought cheer to them as the rate agreed is the same at which GNIDA is paying land compensation to farmers whose land is acquired for development projects. According to farmer leader Teja Gujjar, this decision is likely to make thousands of farmers in 36 villages whose land will be acquired for the Peripheral Exressway millionaires overnight. Teja Gujjar had made it clear that nothing short of the rate of the GNIDA would be acceptable to the farmers. The district magistrate had also assured the farmers in the last meeting a land compensation rate of Rs 850 per sq mt. This amount will be paid by the National Highway Authority of India which is responsible for building the Peripheral Expressway. Though the farmers had agreed to the rate of Rs 850, but they were insisting on other facilities as per their agreement with GNIDA –that 6 per cent land be given back to them by the authority. The district magistrate had told the farmers that the land was being acquired in national interest and not for any industrial or commercial project, thus they should not expect Greater Noida-like facilities along with. The farmers countered this by saying that those farmers who were giving their total land and houses also for the project should be considered landless and therefore given plots. The district administration is considering this point. Eastern Peripheral Expressway from Palwal to Sonepat is being constructed by the Government of India to ban heavy vehicles from entering Delhi and save Delhi from unnecessary heavy vehicular traffic and the resultant pollution. The Peripheral Expressway will pass through villages in GB Nagar district also. The Noida farmers were opposing it for lack of proper land compensation. This Expressway will not only reduce travel time between Palwal and Sonepat but is also likely to throw up considerable employment opportunities for the people en route, it is learnt. |

The high court had ordered immediate closure of those nursing homes, which had been operating without valid registration for years and did not comply with all the requirements not only under the MPD-2021 but also under other statutes as well. As for nursing homes, which had applied for registration but had not yet been granted permission, the high court had given liberty to the authorities concerned to take action against them as per its judgment. For nursing homes, which had approached the high court after applying for grant or renewal of their registration, the court had given them six months to shut down their business if they were unable to have themselves registered as per the Delhi Nursing Homes Registration Act, 1953, the rules and the law established in the judgment.

Man commits suicide
New Delhi, June 2 Sanjay was discovered dead at his rented accommodation in Gali number 8 of Than Singh Nagar by his landlord Madan Lal Saini (65) around 9 pm yesterday. Doubts have been raised about the suicide theory since Sanjay was found dead in a sitting posture with nylon wire around his neck. However, the police dispels the murder angle. "The nylon wire sometimes stretches to about 5 to 8 feet when put under weight for hours. In this case, the wire must have stretched after breaking the neck bones of the victim, leading to the body being found in sitting position over the bed. This is a case of suicide and we have no doubt about it," said the investigating officer in the case. He added that Sanjay used to miss his wife who lives in a village in Bihar and often remained depressed because of it. However, contrary to police claims, some neighbours say that Sanjay was looking to quit his job and he had no reason to take his life. "His employers kept him as a bonded labourer and never gave him permission to go here and there. He wanted to go back home but they never allowed him. In fact, he was looking to quit and had told his employers so only a day earlier," said a neighbour on the condition of anonymity. According to information, Sanjay worked in a plastic monogram making unit owned by brothers Shekhar and Mukesh. Sanjay's body has been sent for a post-mortem and his family in Bihar has been informed about the incident. |
