Motivate people for organ donation: Dr Morris

Recent studies based on random trials have confirmed that surgeons can do without steroids in organ transplantation as there is a higher risk of acute rejection after withdrawal of steroids, but this does not affect the graft survival, said Sir Peter Morris, director of the Centre for Evidence in Transplantation, England.

Even as officials of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) here had launched a drive to recover arrears of energy bills and the outstanding amount in all four circles of the Ludhiana district (Central zone) had been cut down by nearly 8 per cent during two quarters of the current financial year, the government departments continue to be in default with the Punjab police being the front-runner.

Relax paddy procurement norms: BKU
Ludhiana, October 18
The Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) has reiterated its demand for relaxation of norms for purchase of paddy. It has urged the Central government issue directions to the Food Corporation of India to purchase the entire paddy crop arriving in mandis with moisture contents up to 20 per cent against the prevailing norm of 17 per cent.

Two youths on a motor cycle snatched a woman’s chain on the Pakhowal road. She was riding pillion with her husband on their two-wheeler. The couple chased the snatchers to a half-kilometer stretch. When they saw two cops near the mobile police control room (PCR), they sought their help to nab the culprits. Instead of following the snatchers, the cops seemed to be more interested in knowing the couple’s credentials. They wasted time in asking irrelevant questions like where were they coming from? Why were the youths chasing them? How could they say that those were the snatchers? The couple decided to return home instead of wasting time with the cops.
