Ishmeet Singh’s body was brought home amid the chants of “Waheguru” here this afternoon. When the van carrying his body, escorted by his father, relatives and friends, entered the street near his house, neighbours broke down. Women were seen running along the van, crying bitterly.

The local police has booked Jarnail Singh, a newly elected SAD sarpanch of Momnabad village, under Sections 186 and 341 of the IPC for allegedly interfering in the work of police personnel on election duty and detaining them last evening.

7-yr RI for two in rape case

A fast-track court has sentenced Raj Kumar of Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar, Dugri, and Mansha Ram of Manakwal village to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape case. Delivering the verdict, the judge, R.L. Ahuja, held that the prosecution had proved the charges beyond any shadow of doubt.

Patwari held for graft
Ludhiana, July 31
The Vigilance Bureau sleuths caught a patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a farmer seeking registration of a land deed. Jarnail Singh, patwari of halqa Sandaur in Malerkotla tehsil, allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe for preparing the "kursinama", a press note stated here today. The deal was allegedly struck at Rs 5,000. The complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau to nab the corrupt official.
