The Chandigarh police today resorted to cane charge and used water cannons to disperse BJP workers, led by party’s firebrand Amritsar MP, Navjot Singh Sidhu, at Matka Chowk here when they attempted to break the barricades and proceed to Raj Bhawan.

Labourer buried alive as earth caves in

Bus operators flouting rules: Janata Party
Chandigarh, June 23
The Chandigarh unit of the Janata Party, in a memorandum to the UT adviser and finance secretary, has pointed out that illegal plying of private buses has been causing huge financial loss to the UT’s exchequer apart from violating the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The activity has also been a source of nuisance for residents of Sectors 22 A and B, it has added.

Cong has no agenda for development: SAD
Zirakpur, June 23
Punjab cooperation minister and general secretary of the SAD Capt Kanwaljit Singh said the Congress had done nothing for the development of Punjab in general and Zirakpur in particular when it was in power during the last 5 years. Today it was seeking votes in the name of development whereas the reality was that it had no agenda for development, he added.

Finally, PU opens its guidance cell

JAC threatens to go to Parliament

“If the Punjab government is sleeping over a letter of offer of Central university status to PU by ministry of human resource development for the past one year, its implicitly means that the Punjab government is not opposed to the idea of Central status to PU but for political expediency does not want to openly admit to it,” said Dr Mohammed Khalid, former Fellow Panjab University, while speaking from the dharna site. “If Punjab government is skirting around the issue, the Central Government too is shirking its responsibility as PU is predominantly a Central university in its character and structure,” rued Dr Khalid.

Singla to head RFI panel
