MC seals 7 shops
Protests Turn Violent
Ludhiana, June 12
The municipal corporation today sealed seven shops in Ghumar Mandi for building bylaw violations amidst violent protests from shopkeepers and Congress councillors. They laid a siege on National Road and Arti Chowk, blocking the Ludhiana-Ferozepore highway, and set several waste tyres afire, causing inconvenience to hundreds of people.

Power situation turns worse
Ludhiana, June 12
With the commencement of paddy transplantation in the state, the power situation has taken a turn for the worse with the result that two to three hour daily power cuts have been imposed on mixed feeders in the urban areas with immediate effect and the city residents are made to reel in the suffocating hot and humid weather conditions.

Duplicate, underweight LPG cylinders seized
Ludhiana, June 12
The District Food and Civil Supplies Controller (DFSC) seized 10 duplicate and two underweight cylinders from Azad Gas Agency in Haibowal here today. Department officials also detected instances of forcing customers to buy retail products by K.C. Gas near Jagraon Bridge.

Jewellery stolen from house
Jagraon, June 12
Mallu Kumar, Rinku, Sonu of Raikot and Rohil Hans of Ambala City entered into the house of Balkishan of Balmik Mohalla, Raikot, and allegedly stole gold and silver jewellery, Rs 10,000 in cash and two LPG cylinders. A case has been registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC.The robbery took place when the complainant along with his family had gone to pay an obeisance to Mata Naina Devi.

PU declares BCom I results

Panjab University, Chandigarh, declared the results of B.Com I. Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women got 100 per cent result. Shallu Jindal stood first in college by securing 83.27 per cent marks while Megha stood second with 82.36 per cent and  Suman third with 79.45 per cent marks.

Restructure UGC add-on courses: Sahota

The add-on courses started by the University Grants Commission (UGC) need to be restructured as a large number of students have been forced to cope-up with vast syllabi. Secondly, the courses were losing its importance to the “poor” monitoring by the funding agency.

Presiding over a three-day training course on fabrication of net houses for growing vegetables here yesterday, Dr Sarwan Singh Bains, former director, agriculture, Punjab, said vegetable growing could help farmers not only in enhancing profitability but also in diversification of agriculture.
