Temple land turns colony
Dera Bassi, June 12 President of the Kabir Jhakho Mandir Prabandhak Committee Rajesh Bittu here has alleged that 18 bighas of the temple land on Gulabgarh Road had been sold by mahant Gudial Das to Harcharan Singh, who, he alleged, was closely related to the MC chief. Amritpal Singh, who was the MC chief from 1992 to 1997 and 2003 to 2008, on the other hand pointed out that he did not know anything about this deal and had nothing to do with the buyer. He added that Rajesh Bittu was not above board and was himself facing serious charges of cheating. In a press conference addressed by Bittu, he said the mahant of the temple sold his rights over this land through an agreement in 1996 to Harcharan for Rs 4 lakh. A general power of attorney was also executed in favour of Rajbir Singh, who is also reportedly related to Amritpal. “Since selling of the temple land is not allowed, Harcharan and Gurdial Das devised a plan to get the land registered in Harcharan’s name,” said Bittu. “Harcharan filed a case in a local court alleging that Gurdial was not cooperating in the registration of the land deed which was executed in 1996. Two days later, they told the court that they had reached a compromise and a decree might be passed that the land be registered. The court, it seems, was not informed that the land belonged to a temple. Only the khasra numbers were give to the court,” said Bittu. The court gave a decision within a week of filing of the petition by Harcharan. “The court issued a decree that the land be registered in Harcharan’s name in 1999. The land was registered in 2005 and later sold in plots to separate parties,” alleged Bittu. When The Tribune team visited the temple, sevadar of the temple Anubhav said the land was not sold and was still with Gurdial Das. When asked about the houses being built on the land, he said they were getting the houses built to give these on rent so that the temple could earn some money for the construction of a satsang bhawan. While one house had already come up on the temple land, another was under construction. Bittu alleged that Harcharan was related to Amritpal and was a partner in another property, which was registered jointly in Harcharan and Amritpal’s wife’s name. Amritpal, however, denied that he knew Harcharan. “I am not related to him and if he is my partner in any property, then it does not mean that I am responsible for all deals he has done,” said Amritpal. Amritpal alleged that Bittu was levelling false allegations against him as Bittu was involved in two cases of cheating in which he had complained against Bittu. Bittu added that after Gurdial Das had issued a general power of attorney in Rajbir’s name, Amritpal realised that Das had executed a specific power of attorney in the name of another person Jethu Ram Saini. He then made sure that this was cancelled, the cancellation of this power of attorney had Amritpal’s signatures, said Bittu. Amritpal said he was the MC chief and he signed hundred of papers each day as witness. “It could have been one of those papers,” he said. Harcharan is now said to be in Bhopal and could not be contacted for comments. |
