Wife, stepson get life term for murder
Ludhiana, June 4
The court of additional sessions judge, Kishore Kumar, has sentenced Neena Saluja of Tilak Nagar to rigorous imprisonment for life for killing her husband Sita Ram Saluja (72) in February 2004. Sunil Sareen, stepson of the deceased, was also sentenced to life imprisonment.

The controversy over the death of a domestic help in Machhiwara continued for third day today with relatives of the deceased refusing to cremate the body till the accused was arrested. The body has been kept at Samrala civil hospital.

A manhole in Bhadaur House and another in Feroze Gandhi market have been lying open for the past several years. Shopkeepers in Bhadaur House said the manhole in their area was covered earlier with a wire-mesh as it was meant for rainwater drainage also. The mesh gave way with time, but was not replaced.

Strong resentment prevailed among commission agents of the town against the notices sent by Markfed, a procurement agency of Bassi Pathana, imposing shortage of 126 quintal of wheat procured by the agency from them.

85-yr-old man dies of burns
Khanna, June 4
Mahinder Singh (85) died of severe burns at Ajnaud village late last night. The victim had been living with his brother and family for some time. Victim’s brother Nachhatar Singh said his brother had been upset for some time over some family matter.

Car hits cops, one hurt
Khanna, June 4
Three cops were hit by a speeding Indica car near the Neelon bridge late yesterday night. The occupants of the car were coming from Chandigarh and were on their way to Ludhiana.The cops on duty signaled them to stop the car, but instead of reducing the speed the driver hit the cops. Constable Gurdeep Singh sustained multiple injuries on his legs and arms and was rushed to a private hospital nearby. Now, his condition was stated to be normal.

The private security industry has taken the task to ensure safe and secure atmosphere among people besides providing employment to eligible youth.
