Short Supply
Jalandhar, June 2 The oil companies are not releasing diesel as per the requirement and just 40 per cent of the total order was being supplied, the owner of a Bharat Petroleum petrol station said on condition on anonymity. The condition of petrol stations of Hindustan Petroleum was more worse as they were not getting even the 40 per cent of their requirement, he said, adding that the Indian Oil Corporation, the main supplier of diesel, had restricted supply through its pipelines which created shortage of diesel. The Indian Oil Corporation was interested in continuing its supply to its own dealers by putting a cut on the supplies to other oil companies, he alleged, claiming that 45 per cent of petrol outlets on the outskirts of the city went dry and even inside the city also the situation was not better. Several attempts were made to contact Bharat Petroleum manager Rajinder Kumar to know the exact cause of the shortage of diesel, but he was not available for his comments. — PTI |

PM urged to raise Kartarpur corridor issue at
Jalandhar, June 2 “We are disappointed that in spite of the repeated requests Mukherjee had not raised the corridor issue during his recent visit to the neighbouring country,” Wadala complained, adding that very soon a delegation led by him would meet the Prime Minister and the external affairs minister to apprise them of the sanctity of the issue and urge them to include it for the forthcoming meeting. Wadala, under whose leadership a group of devotees would perform the 88th “ardas” at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district tomorrow, claimed that the Pakistan authorities were always sympathetic to the demand of devotees regarding corridor and if the Union government seriously took up the issue at the meeting, positive results on the issue could be obtained. Wadala revealed that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal also raised the issue seriously with the Prime Minister during his recent meeting with the latter. While hailing the Prime Minister’s recent announcement that three buses from Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan would be operational soon, Wadala alleged that the UPA government had indulged in discrimination against the Sikhs as in spite of repeated requests, no new announcement was made regarding increase in the fleet of buses for the historic gurdwaras in Pakistan. Even the Minority Commission did not take up the issues of the Sikhs and always pleaded for the Muslims, he alleged. — PTI |
