Companies halt supply of diesel
Ludhiana, June 2
Diesel crisis in the city worsened as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) today stopped the diesel supply to dealers here, affecting around 50 per cent of petrol stations.

Sky-rocketing prices have severely affected the daily food supplies of a large number of people putting up in charitable institutions all over the city. Though these people are directly affected, but could gauge from definite fall in the daily supplies landing at the doorsteps of such institutions. Contributions from locals have declined. Whereas, our expenditure has gone up from Rs 85,000 to Rs 2.50 lakh per month.We have nearly 120 residents.

Fear of epidemic looms over Sandaur
Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 2
Residents of Sandaur village in this district are living in perpetual fear of an epidemic outbreak due to an overflowing pond located in the heart of the habitation. Frequent flowing of dirty water mixed with sewage and other waste has made lives of the people miserable. Non-implementation of development projects, allegedly due to factionalism in the village, has further aggravated the problem.

Elected members to take oath on June 5

The newly-elected members of the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samitis from all districts of Punjab will be administered the oath of office at a function organised on June 5 at Grain Market Salim Tabri, Ludhiana. Sita Devi (35), a resident of Preet Nagar, Shimlapuri, has been undergoing treatment at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for the past 12 days.Sita Devi was admitted after she complained of an acute stomach ache. She was diagnosed as having a hole in the intestines due to tubercular infection.

Symposium on 150th anniversary of Kuka movement

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Kuka movement, the communication and international linkages department of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) held a symposium at Wheat Auditorium here today. Eminent experts discussed in detail the Kuka movement, started in April 1857, which emphasised on complete boycott of British products, courts, schools, educational institutions, railways and post and telegraph services and promoting swadeshi goods.

GADVASU changes date of entrance exam

GNGC students excel in examinations

The 100 per cent result of BCA-III, II, I and BBA-III, II and I is a matter of pride for Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, here. Most of the students passed securing first division. According to a press release, in BCA-III, Nav sangeet Kaur stood first in the college securing 80.95 per cent marks while Amandeep Kaur with 79.2 per cent and Anjali Goyal with 78.5 per cent bagged second and third positions in the college, respectively.

Impressed with Punjabi hospitality, four Chinese cyclists on a cycling expedition through seven countries wish to visit India again. The students of Huanzhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan City, China, started their 15,000-km journey on bicycles from Athens in Greece on March 3 and entered India through the Wagha border three days ago.
