Thousands of private sector employees wishing to own a house in Chandigarh have been left high and dry by the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) as they are not eligible to apply for flats under the recently-floated general housing scheme in Sector 63 here.

PU exam centre in charge removed, booked

Panjab University has booked an examination centre superintendent in a case of unfair means during the ongoing annual examinations. Centre superintendent of GGDSD college, Hariana ( Hoshiarpur district), Sardool Singh was found to be hand-in-glove with two in-service candidates of Punjab Police appearing at that centre as stray cases where a candidate, medically unfit or due to circumstances beyond his control, is allowed to appear for examination at a centre of his convenience.

Following the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to pronounce the orders in the sensational Muskan murder case, the additional district and sessions judge, Ravi Kumar Sondhi, today convicted Dildar Singh and Sheetal, alias Shruti, alias Poonam Chauhan, for killing Muskan, a prostitute, in Hotel Shivalikview on December 10, 2004.

The PGI has given a new lease of life to a 12-year-old Kenyan resident, Linet Mjeri, who had sustained multiple injuries after an accident. She had come to the PGI from her country to get the treatment.

Chandigarh, April 29
The police has booked eight persons of Kajheri village on charges of setting a temple priest on fire here last evening. According to the police, the accused have been identified as Vidya Sagar, Nirmal, Bobby, Pinki, Dr Kansal, Bajrangi and Raghbir, along with an unidentified man, who have been booked on the statement of the priest. Sources said tension had been brewing at the temple for over 10 days after the accused asked the priest, who had been staying there for the past 10 months, to vacate the premises.

Three developers booked for cheating
Zirakpur, April 29
The Zirakpur police has booked three colonisers of Shivalik Vihar on the charges of cheating. Acting on the complaint of Kehar Singh, a resident of Khijarghar village, the police booked coloniser Gulab Singh. In his complaint to the police, Kehar Singh alleged that he had bought three plots from Gulab but the latter is yet to hand over registry documents to him.

Parkview to have 170 rooms by year-end

With an average occupancy of 88 per cent, Hotel Parkview is set to emerge as one of the largest budget hotels in the region with 170 rooms by the end of this year. This was stated at a meeting of the board of directors of CITCO held under the chairmanship of the UT home secretary here today. With a turnover of Rs 5.24 crore, Hotel Parkview had a profit of Rs 1.59 crore for the financial year 2007-08.
