Hoshiarpur, February 23 Talking to The Tribune, SSP Sukchain Singh said illicit relations were behind the murder of Dilbag Singh,
resident of Mukerian. The victim’s wife Balbir Kaur had hired contract killers to eliminate the former. She is also among the arrested accused, who have been identified as Surjit Singh, alias Boby, Surjit Singh, alias Kala and Randip Singh, alias Ricky, all of Naushera Pattan. The SSP said, “On February 19, Balbir Kaur informed the police that her husband Dilbag Singh had left home after receiving a phone call to collect some money pooled in a scheme. Thereafter, subsequent attempts to contact him failed and he did not turn up home till late night.” Later, his body was found dumped on the village link road and it bear severe head injury marks likely to be inflicted by some sharp-edged weapon. The SSP said during investigations Balbir Kaur emerged as prime suspect and on interrogation she revealed that she had illicit relations with Daljit Kumar and got her husband killed through contract killers. Balbir hired Deepak through her paramour Daljit and agreed to pay Rs 2 lakh to Deepak for killing her husband Daljit. She also paid Rs 20,000 as advance. However, when Deepak demanded Rs 30,000 more, Balbir insisted Daljit to hire some other persons of his village as she suspected that Deepak would not do their work. Later, Daljit with the help of aforesaid persons and Ruien Dass murdered Dilbag Singh on Tuesday night, while the latter was performing a Puja in his house. They later threw body on the link road. Sharma, principal DAV College (Boys), who is manager of the DAV Senior Secondary School - the biggest aided school in the state - he had sent his report to the DAV Management, New Delhi, narrating the entire incident. Sharma, who was accompanying the new principal, alleged that the staff members had provoked the students to damage Preet’s vehicle. Meanwhile, in a release issued to press, the staff secretary said their peaceful agitation would continue till the management reverses its decision to appoint the new principal. “Preet won’t be allowed to join as principal,” the release added. |

Jalandhar, February 23 Health minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla, who was in the city to inaugurate a medical camp organised at Indira Colony, told the gathering that the government was providing Rs 600 to all women who delivered their babies in the urban state run health centers and Rs 700 in rural ones. Every woman must take advantage of the concession so that they have access to best medical care during and after their pregnancy, she pointed out. Trained staff was also available for those who wanted to deliver at home. Such women would also get Rs 500 as incentive under the Jannani Surakhya Yojna, she added. Chawla stressed that all pregnant women in the state must be brought under the ambit of the scheme so that the infant mortality rate could be stemmed. There must be at least three checks up during pregnancy so that any health problem during this period could be dealt with, she said. |

The police also recovered the signed note from Jaswinder Kaur. According to the information, the kingpin was in the profession for the past many years and used to lure women from
different areas by offering them good money. Meanwhile, a case has been registered and the arrestees have been remanded in the judicial custody. |

Nawanshahr, February 23 According to the information, Ramesh Kumar along with his relatives was returning in a Bolero from Jainjon when their vehicle was severely hit by a truck coming from opposite direction. A motorcyclist Surinder Kumar, who was coming behind the Bolero, was too trapped in the collision and killed on the spot. However, the truck driver managed to escape. Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted to the Guru Nanak Mission hospital, Dhahan Kaleran and civil hospital, Banga. |
