But flee without cash

Burglars made an attempt to break into the strong room of the State Bank of India in Sector 30 here last night. Though the burglars spent considerable time in the bank premises, gaining entry after breaking open the locks of the rear door, no loss of cash was reported by the bank authorities, said the police.

Mohali, February 18
It’s a unique business. Shopkeepers outside the Punjab and Haryana civil secretariat are charging Rs 5 from visitors to “keep their mobile phones in their custody.” Since visitors are not allowed to carry cell phones inside the building, some enterprising shopkeepers thought of make money by offering them a solution to their problem.

Weightlifting championship in March

19th Senior Men and 11th Senior Women Weightlifting Championships will be organised by the Chandigarh Amateur Weightlifting Association at the coaching center, Sector 42, on March 1, 2008. Two more cases of chain snatching
Chandigarh, February 18
Two snatching incidents were reported from various parts of the city today. Usha Aggarwal of Sector 47 reported to the police that two unidentified motorcyclists snatched from her a gold chain near her residence at 1.10 pm. In another incident, Subhlata of Sector 22 filed a complaint with the police alleging that two unidentified youngsters riding a motorcycle took away her gold chain from near her residence at 3pm.

2 held for assaulting journalists
Chandigarh, February 18
The police arrested the contractor of a parking lot and one other on the charges of rioting, causing injuries and criminal intimidation. They allegedly assaulted three journalists working with a Hindi daily in the wee hours today.
