Jalandhar, November 10
Tanuja and Prabhat Nagpal thought they had been made for each other. An affair which began and blossomed on the net culminated with a walk down the aisle on June 24 this year.

But all love stories do not have a happy ending. Soon after the marriage, Tanuja realised Prabhat was not her dream boy. Fed up with the alleged dowry demand, she committed suicide on her first Diwali after marriage by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Mohalla 13 of Jalandhar cantonment.

Tanuja’s father Jagdish Chander, a Ludhiana resident, was informed by her in-laws about the incident. He reached Prabhat’s residence within a few hours.

Jagdish Chander alleged that Prabhat had been demanding dowry from Tanuja soon after their marriage. She had a fixed deposit (FD) amount of Rs five lakh and Prabhat forced her to withdraw the money deposited in her FD and hand it over to him.

“Tanuja was not in favour of withdrawing the money, which resulted in a dispute between them”, Chander said, adding that was the main reason that her daughter was no more. On Jagdish Chander’s statement, an FIR has been lodged against Prabhat Nagpal under section 304 B of IPC at Jalandhar cantonment police station, said the SHO Paramjit Singh while talking to The Tribune.

While the police sent the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem but it could not arrest the accused till the filing of this news-item, the SHO added.

With 10 BJP workers getting nominated to the district grievances committee and district planning and development board, the district BJP unit is visibly brimming with confidence as well as sense of responsibility.

It is for the first time that the party workers have got a share in the power pie at the grass-roots level. While seven BJP men - Surinder Abbi, Charanjit Singh Fauji, Ram Lal Paul. Sanjiv Mohan, Kamaljit Gogna, Nasib Chand Rattewal, Varinder Singh Saini - have been made members of grievances panel, three senior BJP leaders, Varinder Kaur Thandi (state vice president ), Ashwani Ballagan (district president) and Sham sunder Jadla (president of cooperative cell ) have become members of district planning board by the state government. Ashwani Ballagan, district BJP chief, accompanied by the newly-nominated members, while talking to mediapersons here today expressed his gratitude towards the high command.

He said the move to entrust responsibility to BJP workers at the grass-roots level would further strengthen the alliance. The nominated BJP workers said they would work hard to meet the expectations and act as a link between the district administration and the public so that the development and welfare schemes could be properly implemented. “We will be holding meetings in our respective areas so that the problems being faced by the people could be raised at the appropriate forum for their immediate redressal,” they added.

The policies and achievements of the SAD-BJP combine would also be propagated to thwart the misleading propaganda by Congress, said Ballagan. The district BJP chief added that the according to the power-sharing formula one more BJP member needs to be included in the district planning and development board. The issue would be brought into the notice of state BJP chief Rajinder Bhandari soon, said Ballagan.
