Cardiac Trouble
Non-invasive techniques gain popularity
Kuldip Bhatia

Ludhiana, August 29
While cardiac bypass and angioplasty (stenting) remain the standard procedures for opening clogged arteries and restoring blood supply to the heart, completely non-invasive techniques like External Counter Pulsation (ECP) and Artery Clearing Therapy (ACT) are also gaining ground with more people opting for these.

Director, Sibia Medical Centre, Dr S.S. Sibia said procedures like ECP and ACT have shown excellent results in clearing blocked blood vessels.

Citing a recent case, he said a Nigerian finance manager, Adeyeye Adniran Jacob (51), was suffering from persistent chest pain and was unable to walk even a short distance. For certain reasons and beliefs, Jacob did not want to go for cardiac bypass, which the doctors had advised him to have.

Searching the internet for some viable alternative, the Nigerian national came across information about non-invasive and non-surgical treatment for angina in the city.

Dr Sibia said Jacob underwent some ECP sessions and ACT drips. With the completions of 6th ECP session, there was substantial relief from pain, which completely went away by the 35th sitting. A non-invasive blood mapping test - Cardio-vascular Cartography performed on the patient before and after the treatment revealed that blood flow to his heart had been restored to normal level.

“Before the treatment, the patient was able to run for just about 6 minutes on Treadmill Test before developing chest pain and discomfort. But post-treatment, he kept running for more than 11 minutes, and even though he felt tired, he had no chest pain.”
