Govt to develop tourism circuits
Jalandhar, July 15
To convert Punjab into a major tourist destination of India, the Punjab Tourism Department will not only develop ‘Freedom Struggle’ and ‘pilgrim’ circuits, but also introduce a Punjab luxury train with the help of the Railways ministry. The Punjab government has earmarked Rs178 crore for the two projects besides others.

Batala bypass hits roadblock
Rs 8-cr expenditure later, land embroiled in dispute

After spending over Rs 8 crore to construct a strategic bypass close to the international border at Batala, its completion remains uncertain as the part of land involved is under dispute. The project, initiated in 2001, remains uncompleted due to the non-availability of land and delay in construction of a railway over-bridge.

3,000 villages to be covered

MC poll: SAD forms committees

Acting president of the SAD Sukhbir Singh Badal today constituted screening committees for the four major cities of Punjab where civic polls are scheduled for next month. Senior leaders of the political affairs committee of the SAD have been nominated as coordinators of the committees.

Dehar resumes generation of power
Patiala, July 15
The Dehar power project of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) again has started generating 900 MW of power. Since the PSEB has a major share in the power generated by the BBMB, the board is likely to benefit the most from the generation at Dehar. Besides, it will also provide power free of cost to the PSEB.

Sikh bodies hold march
Rhode (Baghapurana), July 15
A number of Sikh organisations, including radical groups, under the banner of the Khalsa Action Committee took out a march, the first of the six marches announced by the committee, from the native village of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, 32 km from Moga, today. Before the march, led by Panj Piaras, began, ardas was offered at Gurdwara Kirtan Prakash. A large number of Nihangs participated in it.

Sikh leaders condemn raid on gurdwara

Senior Sikh leaders today condemned the raiding of a gurdwara in Talwara village by the district police on July 2. In a meeting held on the premises of the gurdwara, the leaders demanded strict action against the SHO who raided the shrine.

The district police succeeded in arresting three of the nine suspects wanted in connection with the brutal murder of a couple of Rauli village after abducting them from their rented accommodation in Kangna village, under the Shahkot police station.
