Batala, July 10
Sukhwinder Kaur, wife of Iqbal Singh of Mehnian Sardaran village, falling under Kathunangal police station in Amritsar district, has been missing for the past three days along with her two-year-old son Malkiat.

The parents of the woman suspect her murder by the parents-in-law. The woman belongs to Gobind Nagar Colony, Bhuller Road, Batala.

Her mother Kanso said Sukhwinder Kaur’s in-laws had been harassing her since the day of her marriage and they asked her to bring Rs 50,000. Hence she left the resident along with her son. Her parents suspect that her parents-in-laws might have murdered her.

In November, 2005, a compromise was reached with the efforts of the Mehnian Sardaran panchayat between her and her parents-in-laws.

Jarnail Singh, brother-in-law of Sukhwinder Kaur, said there was only a minor dispute in the house and she was never beaten up nor any money was demanded from her. As per the decision of the panchayat in 2005, their share of land was given to them and they were living separately.

The Batala SSP said the matter was being probed by the police.
