HSGPC members raise slogans against Badal
Karnal, May 6 Addressing the Sikh sangat at Gurdwara Kar Seva here, the SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the Congress government was firm to divide the Sikhs. To oppose the “unholy” proposal of the Hooda regime for setting up HSGPC, the supreme Sikh body had to launch the drive against the proposed move. In the next 10 days, the SGPC will conduct similar rallies at different parts of the state which will conclude at Pehowa on May 15, he informed. Soon, a state-level SGPC office will be set up at Kurukshetra, he added. Meanwhile, supporters of HSGPC led by its president Jagdish Singh Jhinda today raised slogans against Parkash Singh Badal and others. He alleged that Badal treats the SGPC as his personal asset but the community had sought HSGPC. However, Makkar said the “state managed” polling on the issue of HSGPC was a brainchild of a few persons who were trying to make an issue out of nothing. “It is a sheer interference in our religious functioning. Certain elements are spreading rumours that the SGPC had ignored the state”, Makkar said. In the past three years the SGPC had allocated Rs 16 crore to the state whereas total donations collected from here in the given period were Rs 7 crore, he added. However, educational and religious projects worth crores of rupees had already been cleared for the state. Makkar charged the Hooda regime for instigating the Sikhs in the states. Blaming the Haryana government for creating rumours, he said Hooda regime did not want Sikh institutions to be developed in the state. SAD working president Sukhbir Singh Badal cautioned the Congress government against meddling with the religious affairs of the Sikhs. SAD general secretary Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Gharaunda MLA (INLD) Rekha Rana, senior vice-president of SGPC Raghujit Singh Virk also spoke on the occasion. |

Haryana aviation clubs to get new wings
Chandigarh, May 6 For the first time, the department has purchased two Cessna 172 aircraft from the USA after getting approval of the director-general civil aviation (DGCA). The department will also get a Hansa aircraft from the National Aeronautics Laboratory (NAL), Bangalore. The department has also requested the Aero Club of India to allot them six new aircraft (two each for the three civil aviation clubs). The matter has been taken up by civil aviation minister Randeep Surjewala with the union civil aviation ministry. Top officials in the department said they had bought the new Cessna aircraft at an estimated cost of Rs 95 lakh each. These would shortly be assembled at Karnal and then put into use at two clubs. “Initially, we had planned to purchase three second-hand Cessna aircraft, but since aircraft which have flown for more than 20 years are not recommended by the DGCA, we decided to buy new aircraft,” said the officials. They said this year the three Haryana Institutes of Civil Aviation (HICA) were likely to meet their target in flying (1,500 flying hours) and exceed the targets in gliding at Hisar (2,500 launches) and Pinjore (3,000 launches) institutes. The three institutes have also issued 124 student pilot licences, 13 commercial pilot licences and four private pilot licences. “Though we have completed almost 960 flying hours and 1,192 launches at Hisar and 1,110 flying hours at Karnal, flying operations at the HICA, Pinjore, have remained suspended ever since the chief flying instructor quit the job in December. As a result, we have completed only 570 flying hours there. But the process of appointing a new instructor is on,” informed an official, hoping that flying operations would resume at Pinjore soon. This year parasailing
has been introduced in Pinjore. The Pinjore institute has two Pushpak aircraft, one Piper Cherokee and three gliders, of which only one Pushpak and one glider is serviceable. The engine of the Piper Cherokee needs overhauling. The HICA, Hisar, has one Cessna and one Super Blanic glider and both are in working condition, while in the HICA, Karnal, two aircraft (Cessna and Pushpak) are in working condition, while one Hansa aircraft is grounded as it is awaiting certificate of air worthiness and would resume flying operations by May 15. |
Human trafficking victim awaits cremation
Fatehabad, May 6 Police liaison officer with the British High Commission, New Delhi, Tushar J.Vaishnav, met the kin of Gurbax with photographs of his body at Ahlisadar village, near here, on Friday. He told the relatives that Gurbax and four others had reached Witham on board a ship by the sea route from Belgium on June 12, 2006. Their entry to England was perhaps managed by a few human-traffickers. They were kept in a locked vehicle on board the ship for five days and five nights without food and water. They disembarked on the shores of Witham and tried to flee, but were noticed by the local police. However, two of them managed to flee; one was apprehended by the police, two others, including Gurbax, collapsed. Both died before any medical assistance could be provided to them. The British authorities, according to Vaishnav, have not been able to ascertain the identity of the other deceased so far. Family members of Gurbax, who had not heard about him ever since he left Germany for England, are in a state of shock after learning about his death. They revealed that Gurbax had gone to Germany two years ago in search of greener pastures and was in contact with them till June, 2006. He told his family members that he was going to England, but after that never contacted them. Vaishnav, when contacted on telephone, told this correspondent that he had gone to Ahlisadar village to inform Gurbax's family members about his death and the fact that his body was lying preserved in a morgue there. He said the British authorities were in touch with the Government of India for giving permission for sending a team of DNA experts to Gurbax’s village. Once the other modalities were completed, the authorities might allow a member of Gubax's family to go to England for his cremation. |
Deserted woman waits to be with kids
Karnal, May 6 She could not reveal her whereabouts because of her handicap and now when after six months her in-laws were contacted in New Delhi, they refused to take her
back. Tears of helplessness are the only way in which she conveys her desire to be with her children. SDM R.K Singh has asked for a detailed report in the case for further action. In her late 30s, Rajni was found wandering near a gurdwara in Gurgaon in November last
year. The SDM, Gurgaon, referred her to Nari Niketan, Karnal, and later she was sent to the MDD orphanage here by the local administration. The president of the local chapter of Shakti Vahini, an NGO working to protect the rights of women, and the orphanage management successfully located her in-laws who live in the posh Paschim Vihar locality of New
Delhi. Brother P.R Nath, who is running the orphanage, told The Tribune here that it was by sheer chance that certain visitors from Yamunanagar to the orphanage recognised her as their old neighbour. On the basis of this information, her family in Yamunanagar was traced. But her financially poor brothers also expressed inability to take care of her. “Initially, her brothers were reluctant to reveal the identity and address of her husband, but later they took us to her in-laws'', said Raj Singh Chaudhary of Shakti Vahini. But on seeing her brother at their doorstep in the posh BG 1 locality in Paschim Vihar, the in-laws got infuriated. “Her mother-in-law told us that she did not want Rajni back'', said Chaudhary.“After she gave birth to their
heirs, the Sehgal family dumped her. Since she also has a rightful share in the
property, we will take to the matter to the court to get her justice”, he added. When contacted in New Delhi, her mother-in-law, Sheela Rani, alleged that Rajni was violent in nature and had run away several times in the past. She said her son, Sunil Sehgal, who is paralysed on the left side after having an accident in 1987, had got married to Rajni in 1996. Admitting that Shakti Vahini volunteers had contacted
her, Sheela cast serious aspersions on Rajni's character. |
