Harassed by cops, Hindus threaten to migrate
Udhampur, April 24 Pyar Singh, whose relatives were allegedly killed by unknown persons on April 21, 2007, alleged that instead of taking action against culprits, the police had registered cases against those youth, who had protested against that gruesome incident. “As the police had refused to register murder of Vijay Singh and his wife Sheesha Devi, some local youths put their bodies on a road and staged dharna'', he said, regretting that instead of doing justice with the family of the deceased, the police had booked those who were protesting against the killing. He pointed out that cases have been registered against Roop Singh, Hardyal Singh, Hardev Singh, Romal Singh, Om Singh and others. Another resident of Sarbani Bata, Lal Chand said confidence of the minorities had been totally shattered due to the indifferent attitude of the authorities. The police should investigate the case to inculcate confidence among the minorities'', he opined but hastened to add that the authorities had been exerting pressure on them to withdraw the case. Fear grips the minority community after the mysterious killing of the couple whose bodies were found in a nullah. While the police has registered a case under section 174 CrPC and started investigation to ascertain the cause of the death, family members alleged that they were killed by militants. |

Supported by the local leadership of the BJP, the Shiv Sena and the Panthers Party, they decided to court arrest when cops resisted them with a mild cane charge. Shiv Sena leader Anand Sharma, who led the march, said it was unfortunate that these refugees were not given their due. Cops want to kill me: Mendhar MLA
Rajouri, April 24 Addressing newsmen here, Rana alleged that the police even wanted to eliminate him since he supported members of a particular community in constructing a mosque. Citing an example of a firing incident at the house of a civilian in Mendhar last week, Rana said the incident was fake and was hatched by some agencies in connivance with the police in Mendhar. Demanding a probe into the incident, Rana said the incident was of serious nature and needed to be investigated through an impartial investigating agency. Responding to a query regarding his support for the construction of the mosque over a piece of disputed land, Rana averred that he supported the construction of the mosque since the piece of land was already under the occupation of the Madrasa administration. The MLA alleged that his security had been withdrawn with an intention to get him eliminated by militants. However, the DIG, Rajouri-Poonch range, refuted all allegations levelled against the police. |
J&K govt issues 120 `most wanted’ terrorist list
Jammu, April 24 The J&K government has urged New Delhi to take up this issue with Islamabad. “We have handed over a latest revised list of over 120 most wanted militants being sheltered in PoK and Pakistan to the Union Home Ministry during a review meeting in New Delhi recently, so that centre takes up the issue with Pakistan,” said a top state intelligence source. All these ultras are wanted in connection with terrorist activities in the state and all of them have crossed the Line of Control and are sheltered in PoK, said the source. Of these 120 militants, 33 are Pakistani nationals, while the rest are Kashmiris, said the J&K government. From the Kashmiris, 60 are from Poonch district, one from Baramulla, four each from Srinagar and Rajouri, five from Anantnag, three from Pulwama, two from Udhampur and one each from Budgam and Doda. Lashker-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, LeT Operations Chief Bilal (alias Salahuddin), Jaish-e-Mohammad deputy chief Mufti Asrar, and JeM Operations chiefs Shah Faisal and Madni are among the Pakistanis whose names are present in the list, said the J&K government. The fact that the militants are taking shelter in PoK and operating from there is proof that Pakistan is actively aiding and abetting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, said the J&K government. “We therefore want the government of India to take up the issue with Pakistan,” said the source. — PTI |
